Symphonic Chorus has performed in seven programswith the Minnesota Orchestra, including, such majorworks as Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Verdi's Otelloand Requiem, and most recently at the Viennese Som-nierfest presentation of Puccini's Tosca. Last month thegroup joined the Minnesota Orchestra in the world pre-miere of Stephen Paulus' Voices.

At the core of the ensemble is the Dale Warland Sing-ers' one of the few fully professional choral groups in theU~S. Years of concert tours, music festival appearances,residencies and works written for the. ensemble by suchcomposers as Dominick Argento, William Schuman andGeorge Shearing have, given the Singers internationalstature.

Dale Warland, music director of the Dale WarlandSymphonic Chorus and the Dale Warland Singers, is ac-tive throughout the country as a guest conductor, lec-turer, composer and arranger. Among his credits arefourteen recordings, regular appearances on American

, Public Radio, and performances with the Swedish RadioChoir, the Danish Radio Choir and the Mormon Taber-nacle Choir. A professor of music at Macalester Collegein St. Paulfrom 1967 to 1986, Warland holds a doctor ofmusical arts degree fromtheUniversity of Southern Cal-ifornia and formerly co-chaired the choral and recording

,'panels of the National Endowment for the Arts.

~el Canto VoicesFounded in 1976 by its director, Janice Kimes, the BelCanto Voices is a choral organization for girls in the fifththrough twelfth grades. Among its many collaborationswith the Minnesota Orchestra are a series of VienneseSommerfest appearances since 1982 (most recently inlast summer's concert presentation of Tasca) andMahler's Symphony No.8 at theMidsummer Festivallast June.

Director Janice Kimes, a member of the artistic staff ofthe Minnesota Opera, leads two other choral groups inthe Twin Cities and is a frequent guest ,lecturer at theCollege of St. Catherine. She is a popular choral clini-cian and guest conductor throughout the region.'
