FuchsiaGeneral informationDuring summer our show garden is the place to judge, photograph and admire ourFuchsia assortment. The plants are tested on their performance in the Dutch climateand under our own conditions. By keeping track on the various crops and various, yearby year, we get a reliable image of each variety. The constant gathering of all data willlead to a reliable judgement.
The plants are replanted from a small pot into a 20 litre pot or in hanging basketsaround week 16. In each pot 5 plants are planted and each hanging basket contains 3plants. Around week 20, the plants are put outdoors after some hardening off in a coldgreenhouse. The pots are placed on concrete stands, situated on a clean concreteflooring. The field is placed in such a way, that the plants are in full sun all day exceptfor a small part with some morning shadow.
The special outdoor-potting soil is enriched with 3 kilos/m³ Osmocote slow releasefertilizer for 5 to 6 months. Apart from that all pots are watered and fertilized bymeans of a drip system. Each watering is done with an EC of 2-2.5 on a vegetativeschedule. The frequency of watering depends on the irradiaton. We apply no cropprotection chemicals except for 1 or 2 preventive mildew treatments before themiddle of June. Fuchsia however, is not Sensitive for mildew.
During summer dead flowers are removed regularly.
