Workshop DescriptionSHOWING UP: SONGWRITING AND THE PRACTICE OF PRESENCE This workshop addresses our busy overbooked lives and gives tools for being more present artistically and personally. Participants will explore the big ideas through the power of the small details and personal story.  There will particular focus on how the daily practice of paying attention to details and small moments opens our hearts and our art. This workshop is designed to facilitate the development of unique artistic voice, the authentic story, using songwriting tools, to translate story into song.  This workshop has been developed to be very safe, nurturing atmosphere using individual and small group experience..  This workshop is also designed to welcome the exploration of spiritual context, but in an entirely inclusive manner celebrating what connects us rather than separates us. Writers of all levels welcome.!Carrie Newcomer Biography Rounder Recording artist Carrie Newcomer has been described by Barbara Kingsolver as “poet, storyteller, snake-charmer, good neighbor, friend and lover, minister of the wide-eyed gospel of hope and grace” as well as “a soaring songstress” by Billboard a “prairie mystic” by the Boston Globe and “” “asks all the right questions” by Rolling Stone, “a voice as rich as Godiva chocolate.” By The Austin Statesman. Her song “Holy as the Day is Spent” was listed as one of the most beloved spiritual songs by the Huffington Post Religious community. She has toured with Alison Krauss Europe and the U.S. Nickel Creek recorded Newcomer’s song “I Should’ve Known Better”, on their Grammy-winning album This Side. She was listed as one of the most influential folk artists of the last 25 years by Boston’s WUMB and one of the 50 most influential songwriters of the past 50 years by Chicago WBEZ. Carrie internationally facilitates workshops on the topics of songwriting, creative writing and spirituality, vocation and activism. In 2009 & 2011 Carrie was invited to tour India as a cultural ambassador for the American Embassy, performing in schools, concert halls, festivals and visiting community service projects throughout India. In 2011 she released on The Times of India and Available Light Labels Everything is Everywhere, an east meets west collaboration of spiritual music with beloved master of the Indian classical sarod Amjad Ali Khan as a benefit for the Interfaith Hunger Initiative. In 2012 Carrie was visiting faculty at Earlham School of Religions Ministry and Writing Program as well as collaborating with author Parker J. Palmer in concert and retreats based on Healing The Heart of Democracy. In June 2012 she visited and performed in Kenya at the AMPATH/Moi University public health program,
