As of right now the final render isn’t available yet. So far I’ve done the cleanup on this shot. I decided that projections would be the best way to clean the girl out, as the 2D trackers did not give me proper results. So I 3D tracked the shot. Although the point cloud wasn’t perfect, I was able to rebuild the basic shape of room with cards and project the cleaned plates on them. Some challenges were the perspective change caused by the rotation of the camera and some parallax between the couch and the ground. the Robot CGI, Clean Up, Photogrammetry. In this shot I had to integrate the snake into plate. I undistorted the plate, created a basic mesh for the ground and used that to create the photogrammetry of the plate. Then I cleaned out the tracking markers, put in the snake, matched it to the plate and graded it to make it match the snake in the other shots. the Snake 3D by Dean Kopp, Simon Voigt Jansson & Thomas D’Arcy. Clean Up.This shot is part of a personal group project, done by some fellow students and me. It is supposed to include a CG model of a robot.

CGI, Clean Up, Photogrammetry. In this shot I had to integrate the snake into plate. I undistorted the plate, created a basic mesh for the ground and used that to create the photogrammetry of the plate. Then I cleaned out the tracking markers, put in the snake, matched it to the plate and graded it to make it match the snake in the other shots.

KeyingFor this Keying shot, I first preprocessed the plate to get a more even green throughout the green screen without losing any detail. This made the key itself way easier. For the hard matte I used the Primatte and for the Edge key the IBK Keyer gave me a nice result straight away.

To get some additional detail back I used the keylight.

After the key I had still some white edges when there was any motion blur. To get rid of those, I matched the motion blur with the Kronos and merged an eroded version of the plate on top.

Matching the colors and the lighting of the background was an additional challenge in this shot, as they were quite different in the beginning. I used the luma keyer to mask out several things, for example the dark areas of the jacket to match them properly to the background.

Screen Replacement, Keying. For the screen replacement I tracked the screen, removed it and cleaned out the tracking markers. This created some problems as there were reflections on top of the tracking markers. After that was solved, the immense motion blur that occurs while Adam raises his hand was another challenge. When the key was working, I put the reflections back on the screen and graded everything.

CGIFor this CG comp, I made Thomas’ shrine look more atmospheric and added a background to it. To make the background fit into the theme I added some leaves to the trees. Then I made the lights a bit bluer and stronger to create some harder shadows. For the lanterns outside and on the altar I added an expression to make them flicker randomly to “simulate” candlelight.

I graded the rest of the temple and surroundings. After I added three layers of leaves in different depths, as well as several layers of fog. Then I added a final grade and applied the usual in-camera effects.
