Shrek the musical

On Wednesday 3rd of February.

On the way to Shrek we stopped

in Beaudesert to have lunch.

Then when we got to Brisbane

we went to QUT University.

There was a big screen that you

could touch then throw objects

up. Then the sun would go

huge and everything would fall

back down. There was a game

upstairs that we could play.

The whole school went to see

Shrek it was busy. We got split

into two groups one group sat

on one side of the balcony the

other group sat on the other

side. It was very loud espe-

cially for Linden, Laxon, Max,

William because they were right

near the speakers. But the show

was very funny. It was awe-

some to see everybody in ac-

tion. But the funniest part was

when Fiona was expecting

Prince Charming but instead she

got Shrek. They got married at

the end.

Shrek The Musical

We jumped on the bus and

we went to QPAC. Before

we arrived at QPAC, we

played with the large touch

screens in the Cube at

QUT.

Then we went in the bus to

see Shrek. The character

Shrek was loud and fun. I

liked the singing, burping,

dancing and farting jokes.

At half time, we came out

for twenty minutes for a

break. Then we went back

into the performance to

watch the rest of it.

It was fun talking to my

friends on the bus when re-

turning to school to go

home.

School Swimming

School swimming has

started for this year. We are swimming on Mon-

days, Wednesdays and Fri-days. Students will need to bring swimming gear (togs, rashies, towel, goggles and sunscreen) on those days.

We have spare sets of swimming togs, rashies and towels, for children who’ve left their gear at

home. (We wash these af-ter the kids have worn

them.) Please clearly label all the students’ items for swimming as well as their school uniforms as items

an get mixed up in the change rooms.

Keep in Touch

(KIT) Books

For the benefit of new par-ents to our school, the stu-dents have all been given KIT books. These are for the parents and teachers

to communicate with each other about anything per-taining to their individual

student. It might be a change in bus routine, a reason as to why they

were away from school, or if the student was feeling unwell during the day, or

an issue in the playground.

We would like to have these books returned to school each day whether

there are notes in them or not. This allows the teach-ers to report on anything to do with an individual

student also.

Draft “Student

Code of Conduct”

Recently, the students were all given a package to give to their parents, ask-

ing for feedback on the draft “Student Code of Conduct 2020 – 2023”.

There is a survey form in-cluded in the package for you to comment on any-

thing you like or don’t like in the draft Code of Con-duct. Please also remem-ber that some sections in the Code are mandatory

and can’t be changed.

We are asking that these survey forms be returned

to the school by next Mon-day, 15 February. A big

“thank you” to those peo-

ple who’ve already re-turned the survey forms.

Breakfast Club on

Tuesdays

Our new school Chaplain, Chappy Phil, started Break-

fast Club last Tuesday. It will be on every Tuesday

morning from about 8:15am. We will be serving

cereal and toast with healthy spreads. Chappy will be looking for some

senior student volunteers to help get the breakfast ready, too. Not too many volunteers last Tuesday!

This a free breakfast for the students, as all the

food is donated.

Our School Rules

We only have 3 school

rules: Be Safe, Be Responsi-ble and Be Respectful. All our expectations of stu-

dent behaviour are directly linked to these 3 rules. We like to focus on one school rule per term. So, this term

we’re focusing on Being Safe. We’re practising be-

ing safe in and near the water (our pool), in the

playground, in class,

around our buildings and gardens.

We also adopt one of the

Australian Values for Schools to practice all year. The value we are practising this year is Teamwork and Co-operation (i.e. Mate-ship). We started prac-

tising these values in 2016. Our first one was Kindness. In 2017, it was Honesty. In

2018, it was Respect. In 2019, it was Inclusivity. In 2020, it was Resilience and Positivity (at the beginning of the year, when we se-lected this value to prac-tise, little did we realise

how much we would need to practise this one in the

year of Co-vid).

I know we will find lots of opportunities to practise Teamwork and Co-opera-

tion this year in our school and in our community.

Student Council

Fundraising

Our Student Council is made up of students in Years 3-6. They spend

much of their time fund-raising and gardening. The fundraising they do is pri-marily to subsidise our an-nual camps and to support

the Queensland Cancer Council and the chaplaincy

program. The Student Council pays the entries to

all the venues we visit when on our camps. They

also donate $300 to the

Cancer Council and $300 to Chaplaincy each year.

The first fundraiser for the year is selling ice-blocks on Fridays at lunchtimes. We have chosen the healthier options, Icy Poles ($1), Bil-labongs ($1.50) and Frosty

Fruits ($2).

Our second fundraiser will be happening shortly. It’s our annual Easter choco-

late drive. For those fami-lies who are new, we’ll let

you know about that in coming newsletters.

Aqua Fitness

Rathdowney School Pool Every Tuesday

5.30pm – 6.30pm

Only $5

Aqua fitness is a great strengthening workout, using the re-

sistance of the water. There is no stress on joints. And of

course, you stay cool while exercising! Come and give it a

try.

This “Be Healthy & Active” Activity continues until 9th

March and is supported by Scenic Rim Council.
