SHRINKABLE SCAFFOLD CLADDINGFOR WEATHER PROTECTION ANDCONTAINMENT

Tufcoat scaffold wrap is a strong and durable plastic scaffold cladding which is heat

shrunk to create a 'drum tight' and tear resistant covering over roofs and façades of

any size or shape scaffold structure.

Because Tufcoat shrinks tight it overcomes a key problem with conventional

'individual sheet' cladding – the tendency for sheets to flap and detach in high winds

which presents a hazard and often means the scaffolding contractor must return to the

site to undertake repairs or replacement.

In addition, because sheets of Tufcoat are joined together by heat welding, Tufcoat

creates a continuous skin around the scaffold structure without the holes or gaps

typical of traditional sheeting. This makes Tufcoat highly effective for applications

where a high level of containment or weather protection is required, and it looks great

too!

“ WE WEATHER PROOFED A SCAFFOLDINGQUICKER THAN IF WE HAD USED CORRUGATEDROOF SHEETING AND STANDARD SHEETING.WE FOUND TUFCOAT TO BE EXTREMELYADAPTABLE AND COST EFFECTIVE.”

Director, Pro Access Scaffolding

TUFCOAT FOR FAÇADESBecause Tufcoat is heat shrunk to the scaffold structure it forms a rigid bonded

cladding façade including any projections or extensions, even circular or trapezoidal

shapes. Because it is moulded more closely to the structure it looks much smarter than

conventional cladding. Should the shrink-wrap be damaged or punctured by site

activity, it is easily repaired with a local 'patch'. Typically, you should expect to install

100 square metres of Tufcoat scaffold cladding per hour per man.

TUFCOAT FOR ROOFSThe main benefits of using Tufcoat for temporary roofs is that because it is heat shrunk

'drum tight' the requirement for an extensive support structure is minimised. In addition,

the installation time is considerably quicker than tin sheeting. Generally you should

expect a 40% labour saving on fit and an 80% labour saving on removal when

compared to tin sheeting.

TUFCOAT INTERNAL SHEETINGThe Tufcoat range of films are ideal for creating temporary partitions inside buildings

to contain dust and debris from construction activity. Tufcoat is available in widths up

to 14m (46') and roll lengths up to 50m (164') which minimises the need to join

sections. However, where there is a requirement to seal around obstructions such as

pipes and beams, Tufcoat can simply be cut and heat welded back together which

minimises the use of tape. Zipped access doors and windows are easily installed to

enable access into the contained area.

THE SCAFFOLD CLADDING PROCESSTufcoat scaffold cladding is very easy to apply. To get the best results it should be

ensured that handrails, ledgers etc do not protrude outside the main body of the

scaffold structure.

Step 1 – The shrink wrap cladding is unrolled, unfolded and secured top and bottom

with 'Tufclips'. Where a horizontal join between adjacent sheets is required, they are

overlapped by approximately 300mm and heated to form a secure welded joint. Joining

sheets like this effectively creates one single sheet which eliminates the possibility of

leaks.

Step 2 – When the entire scaffold structure has been covered the actual shrinking

process is commenced by applying heat to one side of the Tufcoat shrink wrap film

using the Tufcoat hot air gun. When heat shrinking a continuous motion of the gun is

used, a little like spray painting. When subjected to heat the Tufcoat cladding begins a

biaxial shrinking process as the heat is removed thus giving a taught covering capable

of withstanding the most adverse of conditions. Should it be necessary to gain access

through the structure, the Tufcoat cladding can be cut open, and re-sealed with a larger

patch whilst still maintaining a 100% seal.

MATERIALS & EQUIPMENTTufcoat provide everything required to wrap and encapsulate scaffold structures.

Heat Gun Powered by a cylinder of propane gas, the heat gun is designed to give a

tight, consistent finish to the scaffold cladding. This tool is very rugged and reliable and

is supplied with a regulator and 8m hose. Typically, a scaffolding shrink wrap

installation team will use at least two heat guns to ensure that the job is completed

quickly.

Safety gauntlets Worn when using the heat tool, particularly when creating welds and

shrinking the sheeting, to protect against burns.

Tufcoat scaffold cladding A range of sizes and thickness's are available. The most

commonly used film for scaffold cladding is our 300 micron, flame retardant product.

This is multi-folded on to individual rolls which are 1.6m wide for easy transport and

handling. Bear in mind when ordering, that extra rolls added to your order normally

incur no extra shipping charge, up to 1000kg.

To make sheets easier to handle when applying they are centre folded. This means

that once the film has been pulled over the scaffold structure and cut from the roll. One

of the 6m halves can be left folded whilst the other 6m half is secured with Tufclips and

heat welded. For smaller jobs the film is easily cut down the centre of the roll to create

a 6m width sheet.

Sheets are easily joined together by heat welding using the hand held hot air gun –

this is covered in our training sessions.

Tufclips Used to tightly hold the top or bottom edge of a sheet of shrink wrap film in

position where it is wrapped around a scaffold tube. The shrink wrap is then heat

welded permanently into position, and the Tufclips removed to use again.

Patch tape 100mm wide, high tack adhesive, waterproof tape. Used for repairing small

holes and reinforcing the seam or weld where two pieces of scaffold cladding. Supplied

as a box of 12 rolls.

Zipped access doors / windows These are taped on to the finished scaffolding cover

to enable access underneath. Three heights are available 0.91m (36”), 1.22m (48”)

and 1.83m (72”). All are 0.76m wide (30”).

DATASHEET: TUFCOAT FLAMERETARDANT SCAFFOLD CLADDINGTufcoat scaffold sheeting is an Construction grade LDPE film used for applications in

harsh environments. Tufcoat is formulated with added UVI, (ultra violet inhibitors),

which prevents the film breaking down under sunlight for up to one year and EVA,

which prevents the film from becoming brittle at low temperatures.

Tufcoat cladding shrinks in all directions. This ‘biaxial’ shrinkage, even at widths over

10m, means it can be installed in any orientation.

Page 9: SHRINKABLE SCAFFOLD CLADDING - Boatcoat › brochures › Tufcoat_Scaffwrap_Brochure.pdf · Tufcoat provide everything required to wrap and encapsulate scaffold structures. Heat Gun

TUFCOAT FLAME RETARDANTTufcoat flame retardant shrink wrap is classified to EN 13501-1:2002 Euroclass B. This

means it is compliant with Building Regulations and may be used for permanent

building installation if required. Tufcoat is the only shrink wrap cladding system to be

tested to this European standard which will supercede national standards over the next

few years.

RECYCLINGAlthough Tufcoat scaffold cladding is an oil based product, its carbon impact is small

as it is 100% recyclable. After it has been removed, it is highly valued by recycling

companies due to its purity and subsequently gets turned into plastic products like

drainpipes – there really is no excuse for it ending up in landfill sites!

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

WHY TUFCOAT? Scaffwrap is a durable cladding which is heatshrunk to create a continuously bonded

skin over the roof and sides of scaffold stuctures without holes or gaps typical of

traditional cladding systems. Scaffwrap is recommended for projects where a high

level of environmental containment or weather protection is required.

By creating a ‘drum tight’ and tear resistant covering, Scaffwrap is able to stand up to

the most severe weather conditions, eliminating the problem of detached sheets and

emergency repair. Should it be necessary to gain access through sheeting, i.e. for

craneage, Scaffwrap can be cut open and re-sealed to maintain 100% containment.

Tufcoat supply Scaffwrapp and training direct to the construction industry. Alternatively,

installation services may be provided by our approved installers.

As an ISO9001 accredited company we aim to ensure customer satisfaction. Our

quality systems are independently audited by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance. Our

flame retardant scaffold cladding is classified to ISO EN 13501 with a level of fire

resistance that gives it approval by European building regulations for permanent

installations.

Tufcoat are NASC members and our training courses is approved by the CITB.
