Chandrayan 2

Expanding the boundaries of human

knowledge

The Chandrayaan-2, which means "moon

vehicle" in Sanskrit, took off from the

Satish Dhawan Space Centre at

Sriharikota in southern Andhra Pradesh on

July 22. Weighing 3.8 tons and carrying

13 payloads, it had three elements: lunar

orbiter, lander and rover. This is an Indian

Space Research Organization (ISRO) mission program backed

up by research, technology and a high level of commitment

from top ranking scientists and support from Government of

India.

The primary objective of Chandrayaan 2 is to demonstrate the

ability to soft-land on the lunar surface and operate a robotic

rover on the surface.

Chandrayaan 2 is an Indian lunar mission that will boldly go

where no country has ever gone before — the Moon's South

Polar Region. Through this effort, the aim is to improve our

understanding of the Moon — discoveries that will benefit

India and humanity as a whole. These insights and experiences

aim at a paradigm shift in how lunar expeditions are

approached for years to come — propelling further voyages

into the farthest frontiers.

What makes Chandrayaan-2 Special? 1st space mission to conduct a soft landing on the Moon's

south polar region

1st Indian expedition to attempt a soft landing on the lunar

surface with home-grown technology

1st Indian mission to explore the lunar terrain with home-

grown technology

4th Country ever to soft land on the lunar surface ( other 3

are USSR, US, China)

Components of Chandrayaan 2 Launcher The GSLV Mk-III is India's most powerful launcher to

date, and has been completely designed and fabricated from

within the country.

Orbiter The Orbiter will observe the lunar surface and relay

communication between Earth and Chandrayaan 2's Lander

— Vikram.

Vikram Lander The lander is designed to execute India's first

soft landing on the lunar surface

Pragyan Rover The rover is a 6-wheeled, AI-powered vehicle

named Pragyan, which translates to 'wisdom' in Sanskrit.

What is the purpose of Chandrayaan 2? The core of ISRO’s efforts in uncovering the deepest secrets of

the universe is to derive and build real-world, practical solutions

for India and humanity at large. Chandrayaan-2 aims to widen

the scientific objectives of Chandrayaan-1 by way of soft land-

ing on the Moon and deploying a rover to study the lunar

surface. The scientific goal is to study the South Polar Region’s

distribution water ice and other so called volatile compounds.

The world is looking for big data for further research and

conclusions.

What actually happened to Chandrayaan 2 India's Chandrayaan-2 lander was to land in moon on

September 6th. Shortly before touch down, the robotic lander

Vikram – part of Chandrayaan -2 mission fell out of contact with

ISRO mission control. ISRO says the space craft stopped

communicating with earth when it was within 1.3 miles of lunar

surface. It all happened within last 30 minutes. ISRO team are

analysing the reasons and are committed to set right as early as

possible

Conclusion Not w i t h s t and i ng t he

temporary uncertain status

of Chandrayaan 2 mission

at this point of time every

one of us feel proud about

the achievements of ISRO

scientists in this mammoth

task placing India at the

TOP. Only USA, Soviet

Union and China have so

far been successful in

moon landing mission and India would have been the 4th country

if the last minute technical hurdle did not stop us from achieving

the coveted glory among the vast array of nations. We must

salute the entire team of ISRO who were behind the mission.

Lessons learnt: Even best team can face unexpected challenges in fulfilling the

mission but one must never lose hope. The reason for the failure

must be analysed and corrective steps must be taken as quickly

as possible. This applies to individual and team as well.

Identification of proper resources, planning, time management,

cost efficiency, brain storming and periodical reviews are some

of the other areas to be taken care of by us.

MAHATMA GANDHI QUOTES Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony. Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever. If patience is worth anything, it must endure to the end of time. And a living faith will last in the midst of the blackest storm. Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will. First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win. The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.. Prayer is not asking. It is a longing of the soul. It is daily admission of one's weakness. It is better in prayer to have a heart without words than words without a heart. The weak can never forgive . Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty. When I admire the wonders of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in the worship of the creator.
