Business Feng ShuiBy Jerry King

The success and failure of a business depends on many factors. First and foremost, thedestiny chart of business owners is often neglected in a Feng Shui consultation. There isno guarantee that having the perfect Feng Shui form and energy can be translated intoprofits. Nevertheless, the impact of Feng Shui can be instantly felt if analysed correctlywith the proper implementation of specific features. The combination of having a goodbirth chart, good luck, good Feng Shui, and the choice of industry can lead to success.

I have seen businesses where the Feng Shui form is terrible but the business continues tothrive. Recently, I encountered an Indian Restaurant located in the heart of Vancouverwhere it is situated in a very "Yin" law building where the entrance is considerably dark. The interior decor does not entice one into entering the building. The restaurant has hadmany makeovers until the past 5 years; it started to serve Indian food rather than a varietyof other ethnic food. Today, line ups are seen on a daily basis and the owner is definitelysmiling as the cash register continues to ring for 2 hours per day during lunch serving. This is a proven fact that the restaurant has nothing to do with Feng Shui, but more to dowith luck. One of the keys to the restaurant's success is the recipe in its butter chicken.Luck can bring about a 'word of mouth' leading to a dominos effect where people aredrawn to the food. This luck may have led the restaurant owner to stumble upon its butterchicken recipe.

In many conferences, seminars, and workshops, Feng Shui masters, consultants andpractitioners are often concerned over the facing direction and the period of the building. The focus of the original practice of Chinese Metaphysics is often overlooked and I amreferring to the evaluation of one's destiny chart. Imagine if a customer asked whetherthey should open a business in such and such a location, and whether the Feng Shui isgood? The question should actually be, "am I suitable to start a business, and if so, whattype of business, where should it be located, and how long does my luck lasts, and do Ihave any luck?" Some of these questions have been addressed in my latest book, FourPillars of Destiny: Potential, Wealth and Career so I will not go further with this topichere.

For business Feng Shui, in practice, it-is implemented step by step:

These 4 steps are just some of the criteria that a Feng Shui master may use in an analysis.Going back to a destiny analysis, none of these steps will even be considered if one is in aconsiderably bad luck cycle where it may last for a number of years. If one foresees goodluck coming up, the preparation in the form of training and education in the industry canbe consideredleadingup to the goodcycles.Sincemy bookcoversmanyof the d~stinyrelated questions and business, let's turn our attention to the Feng Shui aspects. FengShui for businesses requires not only the knowledge of landforms and energy analysis, but also the knowledge of the growth of industries and competitors.

Evaluate the District

What type of district is the business located in? Is it in a busy area ofto~Rwbere~there isa considerable amount of people? Every business has different requirements. Withrestaurants, coffee shops, and bakeries, they are much more suitable to be located in abusy area where people are willing to spend. Businesses that do not require the flow oftraffic and a dense population, for example, factories and manufacturing companies, theycan be located further away from the city where rent is considerably cheaper. Parking, trees, main roads, highways, overpasses, subways, tunnels, parks, bridges are some of thefeatures that will affect the Feng Shui of an entire district.

Location of the Building

The features mentioned in the last point also have a vital affect on the location of thebuilding. Imagine a business located under a bridge, the 'sha chi' of the bridge can bedetrimental to the building. The side of a road that a business unit is located on isimportant because it can affect the way Feng Shui masters implement features to pull in'chi' or energy. Imagine having a road directly pointed at the front of your door on a T-Section. Many may consider the unit as having bad Feng Shui. On the contrary, having'sha-chi' or negative energy pointing directly at the front of the unit may not be as bad ifthe Feng Shui master have the knowledge of trapping the 'chi' and nourishing it into thebuilding. If you were to look around at prosperous businesses, many of the businessesthriving are located at T-sections and awkward land structures. The understanding ofwhere the-'water' is coming from and how to trap the water is one of the keys to successfor business Feng Shui.

The Configuration of the Building

This relates to the more technical side ofFeng Shui which deals with the facing direction, the location of the favourable or ruling stars for the period, the use of the Chinesecompass to identify favourable and unfavourable sectors, and how to activate or remedy

specific sectors. The interior and exterior forms also have an impact on each sector of theunit. By identifying the negative Feng Shui forms in the building, remedies can be usedappropriately. There are volumes of information written in both English and Chinese thatcan be read about. If you are not sure about how to use the different methods in FengShui, consult a reputable Feng Shui practitioner or attend workshops and seminars thatteach the compass school.

Analyze the Industry and Competitors

This may go beyond the scope of many Feng Shui practitioners as some practitioners maynot be familiar with certain industries. Homework must be done by both the Feng Shuipractitioner and the ones who are considering setting up shop in a specific~rea.Jmagineif someone came to you and asked you about opening a coffee shop in an area of town. You may not be familiar with the area but what you can do is evaluate the flow of traffic, the number of coffee shops in the vicinity, and what differentiates this potential coffeeshop from others. Feng Shui practitioners are often on the move analyzing one industrytoday, and a completely different one tomorrow. Every industry has its pitfalls androadblocks. The more adept a Feng Shui master is in analyzing an industry, the greaterthe chances are that the business owner can prosper from following the advice of theFeng Shui master.

Conclusion

It is impossible to cover all the intricacies of business Feng Shui in one article and I mayhave missed some points. Each master may have a different approach to analysingbusiness Feng Shui. In my Advanced Feng Shui workshops, I have outlined many typesof implementations and remedies to convert negative energy into positive energy. Thetopic of Feng Shui and business is endless, from the analysis of one's Four Pillars ofDestiny chart to the analysis ofFeng Shui and business industry. Perhaps in the future, Ican shed more light upon this topic.
