Introduction

WelcomeTheSI-2SystemIntegratorprovidesavitallinkpointbetweenanyiCANnetnetworkandathirdpartydevicesuchasanaudiovisualunit.ThecompactSI-2SystemIntegratorprovidesa5-wayconnectorblockatoneendfortheiCANnetlinkanda9-pinD-typefemalesocketattheotherendfortheRS232serialconnectiontothethirdpartydevice.UsingtheintuitiveiCANsoftapplication,youcanpro-gramtheSI-2tosearchforparticularactionsormes-sagesreceivedfromothercontrolunitsattachedtotheiCANnetnetwork.Whenareceivedactionormessagematchesastoredtemplate,theSI-2willsendacontrolmessagetothedeviceconnectedviatheserialport.Similarly,theSI-2alsomonitorsmessagesbeingsentbackfromtheconnectedserialdeviceandwhenanyofthosemessagesmatchthosestoredwithinitsmemory,arangeofactionscanbetriggeredontheiCANnetnetwork.TheSI-2SystemIntegratorcanstoreupto100inputandoutputmessagestogetherwiththeirrelatedactions.Additionally,theSI-2canstoreupto16sequences,eachofwhichcancompriseupto128separatestepstoallowmultipleactionstobetriggeredbyasinglecom-mand.

RS232communicationsettingsBeforetheSI-2systemintegratorcansuccessfullycom-municatewiththedevicetowhichitisconnected,youmustensurethattheRS232communicationsettingsofthedevicematchthoseoftheSI-2unit.Fordetailsaboutdiscoveringorchangingthecommunicationset-tingsfortheconnecteddevice,pleaserefertodocu-mentationsuppliedwithit.

UsethissectiontoensurethattheSI-2communicationsettingsmatchthoseoftheconnecteddevice.

ThisoptiondetermineshowtheSI-2shoulddealwithVirtualControlMessages.Thesearesystemlevelcontrolmessages,asopposedtoyourcustommessagestringswhichoperateatdevicelevel.TheSI-2passesthesespecialASCIIvirtualcontrolmessagesunchangedbetweentheiCANnetnetworkandtheRS232serialportaccordingtothesettingofthisoption.

Note: The setting of this option does not affect the transfer of standard custom message strings.

ASCIIMessagesDISABLED-PreventsanytransferofvirtualcontrolmessagesthroughtheSI-2.

ASCIIReceiveENABLED-Allowsvirtualcontrol messages to flow only from the RS232seriallinktotheiCANnetnetwork.

ASCIITransmitENABLED-Allowsvirtualcontrol messages to flow only from the iCANnetnetworktotheRS232seriallink.

Rx/Tx both ENABLED - Permits free flow ofvirtualcontrolmessagesbetweentheiCANnetandtheRS232serialport.

InputstringsThe ‘Input Strings’ tab is where you can define the mes-sagesthatyouexpecttoreceivefromtheconnecteddevice. Once defined, you can then use the related ‘InputActions’pagetodeterminewhatactiontheSI-2shouldtakewhenanyparticularmessageisreceived.

OutputactionsThe‘OutputActions’taballowsyoutolinkanactionreceivedviatheiCANnetnetwork,toamessagestringthatwillbesenttoaconnecteddevice.DependingontheselectediCANnet‘ActionType’withinthispage,anumberofparameterswillbecomeavailabletoallowyou to fully define the iCANnet action. In operation, whenareceivediCANnetactionthenmatchesthepa-rameters defined within this page, the SI-2 unit will send themessagestring(fromtheOutputStringspage)thatcorrespondstotherownumber(01,02,03,etc.)ofthematchedactiononthispage.Note: Ensure that the action type and parameters select-ed here exactly match those that are expected from the iCANnet network, otherwise the related string messages will not be sent.

ActiontypesSelect scene-Allowsyoutoselectanareaandchooseaparticularscenewithinthatareawhichwilltriggeranoutputaction.Start sequence - Allows you to define a sequencenumber,andoptionallyaparticularstepwithinthatsequence,whichwilltriggeranoutputaction.Note: Sequence numbers from 1 to 16 coincide with sequences that may be pro-grammed within the SI-2 unit itself. If a sequence number below 17 is monitored to cause an output action and is also used as an SI-2-contained sequence, then both events will take place simultaneously. To avoid any confusion is it suggested that sequence numbers of 17 or over are monitored, if dual actions are not required. CAN Message - Allows you to define the ex-actCANmessage(fromanyiCANnetdevice)thatwilltriggeranoutputaction.

SequencesSequencesallowyoutolinkanumberofindividualactionstogether,withorwithoutatimedelaybetweeneach,inordertocausemultipleoperationsfromasingletriggeraction.TheSI-2canstoreuptosixteensequenc-esofitsown(eachwithupto128steps)thatcanbetriggeredbyanactionviatheiCANnetnetwork.Note: Sequence numbers monitored from 1 to 16 within the ‘Output Actions’ page coincide with the sequences that may be programmed within the SI-2 unit itself. If a sequence number below 17 is monitored to cause an output action and is also used as an SI-2-contained se-quence, then both events will take place simultaneously.
