Product Quality Update

Situation • F15

• After disabling a missing or broken key with ISTA, all Comfort Access functions inoperative

Product Quality Update

Cause • BDC (Body Domain Controller) software

issue

• Disabling a key with ISTA removes all Comfort Access functions from all keys, including Comfort Start

Product Quality Update

Field • If the key being replaced is defective (not

lost or stolen), do not disable the defective key with ISTA

• If the key being replaced is lost or stolen, replace the BDC with new keys

• This issue will be resolved in July 2014

Product Quality Update

Situation• F34 (3 Series Gran Turismo)

• Produced from March 1, 2013 to January 15, 2014

• Rear PDC center sensors erroneously show obstacles detected

Cause• Software issue in PDC control unit

Product Quality Update

Field• Do not replace any parts• Duplicate the issue• Perform a vehicle test and complete all test

plans for fault codes relating to PDC• Submit a PuMA case for further assistance

• Subject – Rear PDC erroneously detects obstacles

• SI B66 01 14 will be published shortly

Product Quality Update

Situation• F3x has a buzzing/whirring noise coming

from the IHKA housing• N55 only

• Noise occurs under load • Between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm• Sometimes again at 5,000 rpm

Page 5: SI B06 02 14 Service Roundtable Technical Service Service

Service Roundtable February 2014 2/21/2014

2

Product Quality Update

Cause• Low side A/C hose vibrating regardless of

IHKA settings• Hose transmits noise to IHKA housing

Product Quality Update

Field• Install damper (weight) to the low side A/C

hose• Hose removal is not required• Damper kit comes with spring clamp • Use hose clamp instead of spring clamp

Product Quality Update

Field• Refer to SI B64 01 14

Product Quality Update

Situation• New Battery Care

• Vehicle showed up as “not paid” in the Q4 2013 statement, sent out on February 3

Product Quality Update

Cause• The most common root causes:

– ISPA Light accidently used instead of Battery Care Application

– Demos and loaners mistakenly not considered part of the program

– “Save” button was not pressed when doing the key data check in the Battery Care Application

Product Quality Update

Field• Perform a battery check when the in-

service date is added to the RDR System• Use Battery Care Application in ASAP

Portal• Press "Save" button to execute payment• If button is not displayed it is because the

data is out of date• Update key data

• Current key data helps determine state of battery at time of delivery

Product Quality Update

Field• Please refer to

• SI B61 18 08 • Course OL5075

Product Quality Update

Situation• New Battery Care on E-Series Vehicles

• Battery Care Application informed the technician to replace a battery

• Battery was replaced and successfully registered

• In order to receive 2 FRU for the car, the technician must perform another check with the Battery Care Application

Product Quality Update

Situation• Battery Care still says to “Replace

Battery.”• Even though the key data was

successfully updated after the replacement.

Product Quality Update

Cause• E-Series vehicles

• Sometimes low battery faults are not deleted when registering the new battery

Product Quality Update

Field• In addition to battery registration, make

sure the technician also deletes all faults • Then update the key data• The status in the Battery Care Application

should now show “Battery OK”

Product Quality Update

Situation• All vehicles with the ACSM or MRS module

• Airbag light is on• Fault code for low or high resistance

Cause• Loss of connection • Wiring short circuit

Product Quality Update

Field• Thanks to everyone who submitted a

PuMA case with pictures and feedback

• Review the vehicle history to avoid returns for repair with the same fault

• The test plan is not being followed correctly, which may cause incorrect repairs

Product Quality Update

Field• If faults are not present, you may need to

move the component (seat) or harness to duplicate the problem

• The next slides show the fault code, short-circuit (wiring) location and root cause

• If you find an issue in a new location, submit a PuMA Info Only with pictures attached indicating the new location

may or may not be on when the customer brings the car in)

• ACSM fault 930A60 “Seat occupancy detection, front passenger: Malfunction”

Product Quality Update

Cause • This fault is set when the capacitive mat

senses high moisture.• If other faults are stored they must also be

considered and diagnosed

Situation 1: Customer states warning light came on but car arrives at shop with no warning lights. FC 930A60 is not currently present.

Fault data. Following fault data are stored for the checked function / component group.930A60: Passenger seat occupancy detector MalfunctionSelect fault code and continue procedure.

There was a temporary malfunction in the front passenger's seat occupancy detection system. This is probably attributed to high moisture levels. This fault is currently not active and can be deleted. Do not replace the seat occupancy detection.
