Facilitating impact with efficient group of worldwide recognized experts

17IND02 Communication and validation of smart

data in IoT-networks (SmartCom)

Vision of the project

Objectives and implementation

• To develop and establish a worldwide uniform, unambiguous and secure data exchange format for the use in IoT

networks based on the SI.

• To develop and establish secure digital calibration certificates from NMIs over calibration laboratories to end users

and industry

• To develop an online validation for services in order to validate communication interfaces

• To develop a reliable, easy to use, validated and secure online conformity assessment procedure designed for cloud

system applications for legal metrology.

• To build and validate demonstrators.

Need

Develop and establish the basis for an unambiguous, universal, safe and

uniform communication of metrological data in the Internet of Things (IoT)

and Industry 4.0.

Unsolved metrological challenges

- for all cloud applications: handling metrological data

- ensuring reliable and traceable data for the automated factory of the future

- boost digitisation by enabling unambiguouse and safe communication

Standards Committee / Technical Committee / Working GroupDeliverables

Social and daily life: Interconnected, intelligent communication will ease life. For example light management, intelligent cooking, security and safety

(intelligent clothes communication with medics or car; oven with fire department, unmanned transportation). Dynamically automate routine tasks by “Smart”

Consumer Technologies. Wearable technologies are among the fastest-growing segment of the IoT and promise to have widespread societal influences in the

coming years, particularly in the areas of personal safety and security, health, wellness, fitness, personal organization, communication, and fashion.

Impact on labour: 84 percent of German manufacturers and users believe that IoT will provide a new frame work to human labour in production; - estimates

that there will be a total of 23.4 billion IoT devices connected by 2019 and that adoption will be driven by enterprise and manufacturing sectors.; - projects

that the number of IoT developers will grow from roughly 300,000 in 2014 to more than 4.5 million by 2020.

Technological impact: “Smart” Manufacturing and Infrastructure Technologies: factory managers will create networks of connected production facilities along

entire value chains that can autonomously communicate with each other and direct changes in response to unexpected developments. In industry the

forerunner of IoT – M2M (machine to machine communication) will be substituted by internet based communication protocols and procedures. Calibration on

button press will be possible. Digital certification worldwide.

Impact on markets, sales and economy: Reduced downtimes and less rejected parts and better organised maintenance will support conservation of energy

and resources and will lead to extended business success. Measurement provides actual performance data and equipment health, instead of just estimates
