Si Tanggang the Ungrateful Son Once there lived two parents, Si Talang and Si Deruma who had a son named Si Tanggang. They were very poor. One fine day, young Si Tanggang rowed his boat out to the sea alone. The captain of a ship nearby saw the healthy- looking native boy and thought he would make a good crewman. He sent two of his men to bring the boy to him. And so, poor Si Tanggang was taken away in the ship, far from his family and friends. Si Tanggang did whatever works ordered by the captain. The master liked him because he is hard working. Then, he decided to bring the boy up as though he were his own son. Many years passed, Si Tanggang grew into a handsome young man. He married the captain’s only daughter and took over as the captain of the ship. He was known as Captain Tanggang and he became successful and well known. Due to work, Si Tanggang brought his wife sailed to many places around the country. One day, the ship docked at the river mouth Tanggang village origins. The villagers know that it was Captain Tanggang. They told his parents. Happy in their heart, Si Talang and Si Deruma went paddle canoe to the ship. Upon arrival at the ship, a crew forbade them up. Si Tanggang shamed to see the plight of his parents in front of his wife. Si Talang and Si Deruma calling their son name Si Tanggang, but he pretended to not know them. His wife asked him about them, but he told her that his parents are gone. Si Tanggang’s parents were very sad and his heartbroken mother, Si Deruma looked to the sky with both hands hold, and exclaimed, "Oh, God! Show on Si Tanggang that I am his mother." Suddenly thunder rolled and lightning flashed. A storm broke out. The ship was violently tossed to and fro. Si Tanggang realized that God listens to his mother and he regret for his done. Finally, he shouted to his mother for forgiven. However, repentance is no longer useful. His ship was hit by a burst due to the strong waves. When the storm subsided, Si Tanggang, his wife, his ship, and all her crew were turned into a stone. From that day onwards, they story of the ungrateful son became a lesson for all young people.
