SecureEmail Communicaton: Why Should We Care?

Since the dawn of the Internet, standard email messaging has become one of the most streamlined and

easily accessible means of communicaton since the adapton and implementaton of the telephone.

Nearly every individual, small business and corporaton in the world uses email to communicate valuable

and ofen sensitve informaton both interpersonally, professionally, and across organizatonal

boundaries. Can we fathom a world where faxes and phone calls were stll the most effectve forms of

communicaton?

Unfortunately, with every great inventon comes offseng concerns and control issues. However, no

one imagined the extent to which email, user anonymity and the Internet could generate such

enormous challenges and complicatons.

What many individuals dont realize is when they hit Send the email message is sent via an unsecure

network with a vulnerable architecture, causing it to bounce from server to server and leaving multple

copies of that email in cyberspace before it eventually reaches the recipient. Known as store and

forward architecture, it has been reported that a recent trace of a typical email path interacts with 16

various devices or servers before being delivered into the intended recipients inbox.

With this idea in mind, it becomes obvious that standard email is an extremely dangerous and

vulnerable method for sending confidental informaton. Much like certfied mail sent via post was a

natural and necessary extension of the standard mail system; electronic mail (email) also requires a

specific level of security for special, classified, or confidental communicaton.

Control over the path of an email message is crucial when a Sender needs to communicate

informaton that is confidental or propriety in nature. Not only does this allow for the Sender to have

peace of mind, but the Recipient, in the case of medical records or financial informaton, can also be

ensured that his or her informaton does not fall into the wrong hands.

SenditCertfied offers an extremely high-level of control and provides a fully certfied method for

electronic message transfer via the ePackage. Delivery confirmaton from the Recipient is a key

differentator of the SenditCertfied ePackage technology. While courier services like FedEx provide

proof of delivery with their signature required opton, the ePackage takes this same idea and

applies it to email communicatons; in turn providing a higher level of security and assurance.

Why The ePackage, How Does It Address The Problem?

The Advent of the ePackage

In 2006, the Founders of BioConfirm, LLC created a division (SenditCerfied) specifically to address the

need for a fully cerfied secure email process for those messages that need special handling.

Employing the experse of several high-level government security experts and military personnel, the

company made several key findings with regard to an Ultra Secure and simple to use soluon: 1) a

private global pathway is necessary to provide a secure platorm for email message transfer; 2) this

platorm needs to be both web-based and offered as SAAS rather than sofware or hardware; 3)

fingerprint authencaon technology would be the ulmate soluon to fully cerfied transmission for

both Sender and Recipient. Thus, the ePackage was born.

What Is an ePackage?

An ePackage is a secure, electronic envelope that offers the Sender three forms of confidenal and

proprietary informaon transfer to the intended Recipient: 1) email message; 2) recorded audio

message up to 20 minutes in length; 3) file aachments of virtually any size. This unique, 100% secure

envelope is sent to the Recipient via the private pathway, and whether the Recipient is one office

cubicle, 100 zip codes, or 10,000 miles away, the ePackage is delivered safely and securely to their

inbox within seconds. And since the ePackage is controlled by the fully cerfied process, the sender has

the comfort of true proof of delivery.

Receiving an ePackage

Once the ePackage has been deployed, the Recipient either receives a mobile text messagenoficaon (if the Sender chooses the opon) that the ePackage has been delivered, or they simply

receive the ePackage alert in their standard email inbox. The Recipient then opens the email alert,

chooses Click Here To Take Delivery, and verifies that he or she is the intended recipient via checkbox,

email signature, or fingerprint authencaon. The level of authencaon is lef up to the sender and

thus varies depending on the nature of the informaon, Sender/Receiver agreements, and preferences

of both pares.

Email Or ePackage? That Is The Queston.

Email is best for inter-personal or intra and inter-organizatonal informaton exchanges that require no

level of security or confidentality, and are relatvely unimportant in nature. An ePackage is most

effectve for communicatng items that are confidental or proprietary and/or if the person sending the

informaton is required, by law, to meet a partcular standard. Additonally, the ePackage ensures

recipients that you value the relatonship by taking the tme and making an effort to keep their

informaton private.

Evaluatng the Efficacy of the ePackage for Organizatonal Use

Organizatons evaluatng the use of the ePackage should first be able to measure how well it solves the

problem and how easily the soluton fits within their current business environment; if it does notfit

readily, then an evaluaton of how the change will be made is necessary.

The ChallengeMid-Carolina Cardiology (MCC) is one of the largestcardiovascular groups in the Carolinas. Theyprovide some of the regions highest quality and mosteffective cardiovascular and preventive medicalservices.

For 10 years, Mid Carolina Cardiology has utilized arobust electronic medical records system. All respondents found the service to be an
