UMMID – THE SOCIAL SERVICE CLUB
IIM INDORE, PGP AT MUMBAI
About Ummid
UMMID is the social service club of IIM Indore- PGP at Mumbai. All of us at the institute
believe that success is worthy only if it can help the society to grow and prosper. Having
this philosophy as the cornerstone, the club takes pride by engaging the budding
managers of IIM Indore (PGP at Mumbai) for contributing towards the welfare of the
society. The club channels the managerial skills of the participants towards the
betterment and improvement of the underprivileged and our society at large. UMMID
believes that every small step taken can become the reason for someone’s priceless
smile and will make this world a better place. To achieve this goal UMMID has taken
various initiatives where in the students have been actively involved to serve the
society.
Events
Among many of the initiatives taken by the club, the most notable ones are the
celebration of Diwali and Holi with the children of Mermier Bal Ashram – an orphanage
home. The students spent the entire day at the foundation engaging the children with
games, dance and drawing competition with a special lunch that was appreciated by all
of them.
UMMID also celebrated Christmas with the children at CORP India shelter home at
Kailash Nagar, Mumbai. It was a wonderful day filled with joy at the centre. Students
distributed gifts and carried out various interesting activities. At the end, UMMID
extended a delightful X-Mas dinner to the children. Students returned with a promise to
make many more visits in the future.
The UMMID club extended unstinted support in organizing Flash Mob by PGP MUMBAI
across various malls during the Republic Day to spread awareness on violence against
women. This was a conscious effort dedicated to all the women who have faced societal
violence at some point in their life and hence spreading the message of the importance
of women empowerment.
On the 68th Independence Day of India, Ummid Club organised “Socio Managers”- an
article writing competition to capture the perspective of young budding managers on
social issues. Topics for the competition were:
1) Are Indian women really independent in today's world?
2) The new CSR related amendment in the Companies Act 2013 is a boon or bane?
3) Do you feel MBA students can become better social entrepreneurs?
