Strong interaction studies al low energy (non-perturbative QCD in strangeness sector) through precise X-ray spectroscopy measurements of Kaonic atoms transitions

New goal: Measurement of the strong interaction induced shift and width of the 1s state of kaonic deuterium

SDD technology developed at FBK laboratories (Trento, Italy), already proved for X- ray Spectroscopy and γ- ray detection with scintillators (e.g. C. Fiorini et. al – IEEE TNS, 201 3, R. Quaglia et al. , IEEE TNS 201 5).

PREVIOUS: - 4’’ wafer (leak. current: 2 nA/cm2); NOW: 6’’ wafer (leak. current: < 200pA/cm2, G. Bertuccio et al. 201 4)

Array: 9 SDDs (8 x 8 mm2 each) 12 x 12 mm2 8 x 8 mm2

Development of SDDs in FBK technology

ESA project (201 1 ) LaBr3:Ce scintillator readout with SDD arrays. Entrance window optimized to achieve QE > 80 % at 380 nm (suitable also for soft X- rays).

SIDDHARTA project (201 4) X- rays spectroscopy measurements of exotic atoms transitions.

SDD CUBE

• the whole preamplifier is connected close to the SDD (and not only the FET): • the remaining part of the electronics (the ASIC of analog processing or a DPP) can be placed relatively far from the detector (even 10-100 cm) • the high transconductance of the input MOS compensates the larger capacitance introduced in the connection SDD-FET
