><To empower students to find their voice, lead

themselves, and then lead the world.

MY WHY

My Hope for your student

><

● Feel safe being themselves, taking risks in their learning, and learning how to both navigate and use their own voice.

● Take ownership of their learning and personal growth● Impact someone’s life in a positive way every day● Collaborate, build intrinsic motivation, leave our classroom

each day one step forward than when they entered.● Have fun!

Our Classroom Mission StatementDuring the first few days of school, our classroom

family will develop a classroom mission statement. This will be our foundation in growing forward as a

team and a family.

><

Classroom managementI believe in the power of empowerment and positive behavior support. I support your student’s ability to

redirect and guide their own self-discipline, learning and growth. Our room is a safe environment to make

mistakes, identify and grow with opportunities to improve, and celebrate the growth of one another.

><

Classroom managementPirate bucks

><

In our classroom, I have chosen to implement a positive behavior support system called, “Pirate Bucks.” Students that

exhibit our pirate mission, vision and values can receive pirate bucks as well as reward them to other students in our

classroom family as well. Students may exchange their pirate bucks each week for fun rewards and celebrations.

Standards based gradingWhat is it?

><Standards-based grading communicates how students perform on a set of clearly defined learning targets called standards. The purpose of standards-based grading is to identify what a student knows, or is

able to do, in relation to those learning targets - as opposed to simply averaging grades/scores over the course of the grading period,

which can mask what a student has learned or not learned.

><

Google classroom• We will use Google classroom this year for various

assignments and activities. You can expect your student to log in at school daily.

• In the event of a school closure or virtual learning, students will be expected to log in to Google classroom daily from home.

• Click the title of the slide to take you to our classroom.

><

Take Home Folder• This will go home every day with your student.• Left Side - - Stay at Home• Right Side - - Return to school

><

HomeworkBeliefs about home learning: At Siegrist Elementary School, we value the whole child and understand that students need time outside of school to rest, explore their personal interests, and spend quality time with their families. We recognize that students learn at different rates, times and in different ways and limited homework can provide additional practice for important academic skills. We hope our students enjoy being kids, doing what they love, and spending time with their family and friends.

><

Health and safety● Masks are to be worn in the building daily. If possible,

please send your student to school with an extra mask just in case it’s needed.

● Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle that has a lid each day. This water bottle will be sent home daily to be cleaned.

Leader in me

><

The Leader in Me is a school-wide philosophy that encourages individual leadership and positive character at school, home, and the community

through the 7 Habits principles. It is not a curriculum or an instructional method, but is rather a mindset that encourages students

and staff to see themselves as leaders. The Leader in Me encourages personal goal setting and achieving for students and adults. It is a

child-friendly extension of the book, "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Franklin Covey.
