GRADES K–2 FLUENCY Fluency is the ability to read text quickly, accurately and with proper expression. Materials: • Tic-tac-toe boards (provided) • Lists of sight words (provided) • Markers Preparation: • Print the tic-tac-toe board and lists of sight words. • Make enough copies for all participating families to get one of each. Activity Instructions: 1. Hand out tic-tac-toe boards to pairs of parents and children. 2. Ask parents to write one sight word from the appropriate grade-level list on each square of their board. 3. Invite families to play tic-tac-toe together, with this variation: a. To mark the board, players must first read the word in the square they want to occupy. b. Once the word has been read correctly, players may mark the square with either an X or an O, and it is the next player’s turn. SIGHT WORD
