During the fall semester we have participated in several philanthropic activities. Chapter President, Kathrin Brewer, wrote and received the 1874 Giving Circle Grant for the Theta Phi chapter, UTC to implement. She partnered with the UTC nursing school and various Chattanooga organizations to use the $2500 awarded from this grant to hold a Sigma Kappa Cares Health Fair for the homeless and individuals from underserved areas living in the Chattanooga area. The purpose of the event was to provide education, services, and resources on various health related topics. Lunch was provided and participants received collected stickers indicated that they visited 5 different stations. Once they completed the process, they were entered in to a drawing for prizes. The prizes consisted of small useful items they might need in their homes. They also had rapid HIV and AIDS testing available that was completed by the nursing students. Lastly, there was a Zumba instructor present to have a dancing/exercise activities for anyone that participated in the event.
In addition to this fair, the Theta Phi Chapter, UTC, sponsored a campus wide Organ Donor Challenge. Our Executive Vice President, Amber Dietz, coordinated with the Tennessee Donor Services, to sponsor the event in which over 80 individuals signed up to become new organ donors. This event was held in in honor of our sister, Shelby Glisson, who recently received her second double lung transplant and is recovering in St. Louis at this time.
Members of Theta Phi Chapter, UTC, are also proud to announce that after a successful Ultra Violet campaign, we were able to raise over $6,937 for the Sigma Kappa Foundation. Thank you to Jordan Burton, Vice President of Philanthropic Services and her committee for all their efforts to organize three events dedicated to raising money for the PULSE fund.
This fall we held the 1st Annual Sigma Kappa Fall Festival that took place on Challenger Field on UTC’s campus. Organizations, students, and alumnae and their families were in attendance and Greek organizations set-up games and activities for all to enjoy. We also held the Ultra Violet Softball Tournament in which teams paid an entry fee to participate. All of the money raised from these events will help benefit our five national philanthropies.
During our Week of Giving, treats for professors and faculty were delivered and muffins were passed out to students on campus. Members took a special thank you gifts to the local Fire Department and made visits to a local nursing home. At the end of the semester the Vice President of Alumnae Relations and the Vice President of Philanthropic Service coordinated one final philanthropy event. On November 21st we held our annual Alumnae – Collegiate Holiday Celebration where alumnae and collegiate members dressed in fun festive attire and enjoyed a pot luck meal provided by various members of the chapter and alumnae. At this party we collected over 1200 items for various charities. This year we supported the following organizations: Maine Seacoast Mission, Love Nancy, and Northside Neighborhood House.
Our sisters are always glad to give back whether it is to our national philanthropies or our very own UTC campus. We are proud to serve the community around us as well as many world-wide.
Philanthropic Service: Living our Value of Service
Chapter members at Theta Phi, University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga (UTC), enjoyed a very successful fall semester.
We participated in many events throughout the semester that
honored our value of service. We worked hard to raise money
and awareness for our national philanthropies by both hosting
activities and participating in various other events to contribute
to the betterment of our community.

This semester the Theta Phi chapter, UTC, initiated 46 outstanding young women into our sisterhood. These women were led through the Promise Program by our Vice President of New Membership Education, Danielle Dubois. We are very excited to have them represent our beloved sorority.
This year the main Founder’s Day celebration was held in Knoxville and planned by the Alpha Delta Chapter, UT- Knoxville, chapter members. Several of our chapter members traveled to Knoxville, TN for this event. After a lovely lunch and a presentation at Club LeConte, they toured the chapter’s newly built house.
Two other collegiate chapters, East Tennessee State University’s Gamma Lambda Chapter and Tennessee Wesleyan College’s Gamma Psi Chapter, were also in attendance at this event and celebration. It was a great opportunity to celebrate our Founders and meet other sisters in the eastern Tennessee region.
I would add in here what we did additionally in town
