Re: Photograph in R3G Taos News ad on March 11,2010
Dear Mr. Purcell and Ms Negri:
I wish to call your attention to a significant error in the advertisement that was placed in the March 11, 2010 Taos News bythe Red River Restoration Group (R3G), a copy of which is attached for your review.
The ad features a photograph with the caption "Red River (literally), Taos County, New Mexico -circa 2006." In fact, the photograph is not ofthe Red River, but rather a photograph ofa collection system - located approximately one and a half miles from the Red River- and one of several that actually intercepts and collects seepage and prevents runoff from going into the river. As you can see, an HDPE liner is visible on the bottom ofthe photograph, and a pump station is identified on the right of the photograph.
It is disappointing that the R3G as the official technical advisory group would publish such a picture in an advertisement meant to inform the community.
CMI should not be asked to reimburse EPA for R3G's expenses in having this ad placed in the Taos News.
Please ask the R3G in the future to be more careful in their selection of photographs and copy when placing ads of this nature. If they have questions regarding whether a picture is ofthe Mine, I may be able to help them. Thank ypu.
