Summa Cum Laude—A senior who has earned a grade point average of 3.75 or above.

Magna Cum Laude—senior who has earned a grade point average of 3.50 to 3.74.

Cum Laude—A senior who has earned a grade point average of 3.25 to 3.49.

University Honors—A senior who has earned a grade point average of 3.25 or above andhas fulfilled other requirements of the University Honors Program.

Candidates who have achieved honors in general scholarship are distinguished inprocession by three-tassel gold braid cords. Gerald L. Durle^Commencement Speaker

Gerald L. Durley is the senior pastor of the historicProvidence Missionary Baptist Church of Atlanta, Ga.,

and a 1964 graduate of Tennessee State University. Inaddition to his work with the church, Durl^ also serves aschaplain with the Atlanta Police Chaplaincy Corps anddirector of the Health Promotion Resource Center, which helpsfund health prevention programs throughout the Southeast.He also works as co-director of the Atlanta Interfeith Health

Project, affiliated with The Carter Center, an organizationestablished by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

Prior to joining the pastorate, Durley served as executive director of the Head StartProgram in Fulton and Douglas Counties in Georgia, and as director of conununity

relations and dean of students with Clark Atlanta University.

Dr. James Hefner, president of Tennessee Stare University, said, "Tennessee StateUniversity traditionally asks a distinguished graduate of the University to deliver

The University has two convenient campus sites. Its central or mam campus isbetween 28th and 39th Avenues North and is bounded by the Cumberland

River on the North and Albion Street on the South. The mam campus occupies morethan 450 acres with 65 buildings, parking lots, outdoor ftcilities. pasture and fermlands.
