New Building Update
We have now completed the initial sketches of the proposed layout of the new building. The building will be completed in
5 phases, each enhancing the new building and allowing for new services to commence.
We have started the post planning application requirements; these have to be completed before any building work can
start.
We are bringing together a team of professionals to assist with this project; we now have an architect, structural surveyor,
planning consultant, quantity surveyor and M&E consultant. During the next few weeks the final plans will be completed
along with a specification. This specification will be used to allow building contractors to quote for these works.
During the next few weeks we shall start the consultation with the community to get some feedback on the proposed
layout of specific areas. We would like you all to have your input to allow us to deliver a new facility that meets your
requirements.

This day commemorates the return of the sixth Guru, Sri Guru Hargobind Ji, to the holy city of
Amristar after his release from detention. Guru Hargobind ji was imprisoned by Emperor
Jahangir because he seemed to be afraid of the Guru's growing power. Guru ji had agreed to his
own release on the condition that the other fifty-two detainees would also be released. He was
therefore known as the "Bandi Chorrh". He arrived at Amritsar on the day of Diwali and the
Golden Temple was also lit with hundreds of lamps. Thereafter they came to be known as the
"Bandi Chhor Divas" (the day of freedom). A magnificent Gurdwara has been built in the
Gwalior Fort in memory of the sixth Guru. It is called Gurdwara Bandichhor.

To build on our schools and youth club projects, we will be holding
workshops with young people from different faiths to create art work and
pieces of writing showing the similarities that their religions have to Sikhism
(comparing values, customs, food, clothing etc.). The work will be used to
promote equality and understanding between the faiths and it will be displayed
at Diwali and Inter-Faith Week in November.

SUMMER FUNDRAISERS RAISE OVER £3000! Community of all age groups planned and took part in
a variety of Summer fundraisers and raised over £3,000! Some of the success stories are as follows:
EXTREME ABSEILING — 3 very brave young people abseiled down the 418
foot National Lift Tower in Six fields on Saturday 18th August. They raised a
total of £900 which is an excellent achievement! Well done to
Gurpreet Singh Bains, Amrinda Kaur Chahal and Jaskaran Kaur Suri!
SAMOSA ENTERPRISE — The pilot samosa
enterprise has been a huge success due to the
hard work and commitment of community volunteers. The project has raised over £1,000
through events such as Umbrella Fair, Market Square, Summer Fetes and private orders.
Please continue to volunteer and place orders to make the enterprise a success.
5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT — A football fundraiser saw over 80 men from diverse communities come
together to play friendly matches on Sunday 5th August. The tournament raised over £800 for the new building project!
AWARDS, SPORTS & HEALTH FETE: A record number of young people received Volunteering Awards! We are very proud to announce that the no. of young people volunteering in projects and activities doubled this year to
13! Congratulations to Gulkirat S Makkar, Jessica K Grewal, Maninder Singh, Amrinda K Chahal, Jagjit S Shairi,
Gurpreet S Bains, Jasraj S Reyatt, Harjivan K Chhokar, Hena Kaur, Belinda K Mahil, Gobind Singh, Gagandeep S Sachdeva
& Jasmine K Shokar. Furthermore, 60 children and young people received certification
for participation in activities and were rewarded with an Olympics themed Sports day!
A Health Fete also took place on Sunday 1st July, where
over 200 community members received health checks,
health advice and a pamper! The event raised
awareness of serious health issues within the
community. As a result of the event, community
members have requested further health activities which
has lead to a follow on health event at Diwali, on
Tuesday 13th November, 12pm to 4pm.
SUMMER CLUB: There were lots of fun to be had at the Summer club with workshops in
cookery, healthy living, mehndi, arts & crafts and of course the usual fun and games.
