Gangtok, January 29: Sikkim has become the first State in the country to launch the Rural Management Curriculum for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in collaboration with Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE) under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The curriculum was officially launched by Minister for Education, Mr. Kunga Nima Lepcha, at his chamber in Tashiling Secretariat, today. The Minister was accompanied by Additional Chief Secretary (Education), Mr. G.P. The Governor interacted with school students of Lepcha and other communities of class X and XII who are undergoing winter coaching camp organized by SLYA in collaboration with the State Education Department for final year students of Class X & XII. The association has been encouraging such coaching camps since 1997. Encouraging the young minds, in his speech the Governor urged the students to inculcate the competitive spirit in them so that they can equate themselves at par with the other students as several institutions provides wide range of opportunity. The Governor also handed over cheque of `51 thousand to the association as discretionary grant from Raj Bhawan. He further announced to sponsor students of Lepcha community excelling in board exams. The Governor expressed his gratitude to association for their initiatives and encouraged them to organize more such coaching camps across the State in near future. During the programme, the Governor also felicitated teachers and members of the association and students for the coaching camp who shared their experiences. Gyalshing, January 28:Furthering the cause of educationand aligning it with the vision ofthe Chief Minister Mr. PremSingh Tamang, the DistrictAdministration West sent twogroups of 54 meritoriousstudents, each of class VIII ofGovernment schools from acrossthe district to Odhisa and Gujaratfor a student exposure andlearning programme titled“Explore and Learn.” The studentexposure programme commencedon January 25, 2020 and willconclude on February 05, 2020.

A total of 150 students ofWest Sikkim have been set onexposure and learning tour underthe Explore and Learn Initiativeof the West DistrictAdministration. The entireinitiative of the DistrictAdministration is being fundedby REC Foundation through itsCSR initiative.

The objective of the 11-day exposure program is tofurther instil upon young mindsthe ability to think big and dreambigger, interact with the studentsof various schools across Odhisaand Gujarat, the cultural aspectsof Sikkim, learn about Odhisa andGujarat and its culture andheritage and meaningfullyengage with students of variousschools across the state, therebyfostering a spirit of togethernessand bonding. The students willengage and interact with localcommunities during the programand also participate in the beachcleanliness campaign facilitatedby the local schools andcommunities during their trip. Thestudents will visit reputedinstitutes like National Instituteof Design, Indian Institute ofManagement Ahmedabad, andSpace Application CentreAhmedabad.

The Minister insistedto work in close co-ordinationwith all other organizations andto provide them necessary helpand support while deliveringservices.

In the interaction session,many officers and employeesof different departments placedtheir grievances to the Ministerwhich were mostly related tounavailability of governmentquarters, insufficientmanpower, government vehicleetc.

It was also decided toschedule a similar co-ordinationmeeting every three months,wherein every department willbring their employee chart andalso present the status of allschemes and programmes underthem.

Mrs. Sarika Pradhanmentioned that Soreng Clusterwas selected in phase III fromSikkim based upon the criteria laiddown by the Ministry.

The mission was initiallylaunched on September 16, 2015by the Ministry of the RuralDevelopment, GoI with the aim todevelop a cluster of villages thatpreserve and nurtures theessence of the rural communitylife with focus on equity andinclusivess without ompromisingwith facilities perceived to beessentially urban in nature, thuscreating a Cluster of Rurbanvillages.

During the programme,the ‘Soreng Rurban Cluster andSoreng Integrated Cluster ActionPlan (ICAP) along with apresentation was displayed anddiscussed. Also, the chief guestlaunched a video.

I have learnt so muchabout discipline, timemanagement, enhanced myreading abilities and alsoimportantly money management.I am sure that in the days to comeI shall learn more and come backwith zeal to perform better in theyears ahead.”

Briefing the gathering aboutthe curriculum, MGNCREChairman, Dr. Kumar, informed thatthe Rural Management Curriculumis a BBA/MBA programme thatstrives to promote rural studies andrural management in order toenable development of sustainablerural livelihoods. The uniqueprogramme aims to equip ruralyouth with management skillsfocusing on rural sector while alsoproviding faculty developmentsupport and hand holding of theuniversities who will adopt thecurriculum in the coming days, headded.

He stated that thecurriculum has been initiated inconsultation with the bestinstitutes of the country andfurther added that the State of

Sikkim has also been instrumentalin the development of thecurriculum. He also highlightedthat the curriculum will also bringabout a paradigm shift inunderstanding rural not just asconsumers but as producers andcontributors for production andeconomy.

The briefing session wasfollowed by a discussion sessionwherein representatives ofdifferent universities attendingthe event enquired about thecontents of the curriculum anddeliberated on the future prospectsof the curriculum.

The Minister expressedhis gratitude to MRNCRE fordeveloping an innovativecurriculum and congratulated allfor the honour received by theState in being the first in thecountry to have launched thecurriculum.

SikkimFootball Association (SFA) willbe responible for administaringthe Khelo India Football GirlsLeague in Sikkim in associationwith the Sports and Youth AffairsDepartment. An amount of ̀ 6.00lakhs has been sanctioned as afinancial support under KheloIndia Scheme. The Khelo IndiaGirls Football League will begiving one lakh each to all thefour district and the sum of two

lakhs to the Sikkim FootballAssociation to meet theorganizing expenses. Theguidelines to meet the aboveexpenditure will be issued afterreceiving the grant from theSports Authority of India (SAI).Sports and Youth AffairsDepartment sponsored`1,20,000/- as a prize money tothe winner and the runner-upteams for Khelo India FootballGirls League.

Also, Sports and YouthAffairs Department will extend allpossible support for the localfootball clubs to participate inthe Girls Football league. SYAwill further contact theconcerned Schools, Colleges,Universities and the EducationDepartment for the released ofgirl students to participate in theleague for their respective clubs.The Khelo India Football GirlsLeague will commence on March21, 2020 under the supervisionof the Sikkim FootballAssociation in association withthe Department of Sports andYouth Affairs. SteeringCommittee will prepare a totalbudget for expenditures requiredto successfully organizing thefootball league and will appraisethe State Government for thefinancial support as well asprivate sectors for sponsorship.A WhatsApp group in the nameof Khelo India Football GirlsLeague will be created to monitorall the District officials, FootballClubs and other related aspects.
