A staff at the Robert B. and Metta J. Silli-

man Library won the top prize for his paper

during the 1st International Congress on

eLearning held December 6 to 7 in Manila.

The paper, “Technology Acceptance of

the Destiny Library Manager of the University

Library System”, by Mr. Rey Dennis Caballero,

supervisor at the CyberLibrary section, re-

ceived the Best Paper Award. His paper best-

ed over 30 papers presented during the same

event. Mr. Caballero, who is also currently

pursuing his Master in Information Systems

(MIS) in Silliman, explained that his paper

measured the levels of perception among

users on the software’s usefulness, accessibil-

ity and relevance, among others. It also

assessed the performance of the respondents

following their utilization of the Destiny Library

Manager.

Destiny Library Manager is a centrally in-

stalled school library system that makes available

the resources of the Library to students, faculty

and staff wherever there is internet connection. It

facilitates registration of personal accounts from

where one can look up new acquisitions, make a

reservation for selected books, recommend certain

titles to friends, and tweak certain options accord-

ing to one’s preferences.

Ranking second in the same category was

Gereo Patrimonio, another student enrolled in the

University's MIS program. He was awarded for his

paper, "Perceptions of the Nursing Faculty To-

wards the Development of eTest Generator." Orga-

nized by the Philippine eLearning Society (PeLS),

the Congress gathered professionals and students

in the information and communications technology

field, and offered a venue for collaboration and

Library Holds Orientation and Acquaintance Party

The Library held an orientation for new student assistants and a re-orientation

for the old ones on December 6, 2013 at the Main Library. During the program, Mrs.

Rosalina Dinoy, Readers Services Head, presented the library policies, rules and reg-

ulations, and the expectations of the Library from each assistant. Proper conduct and

behavior as well as the desirable traits expected of each one like honesty, punctuality,

dedication to one’s work, courtesy and others were also discussed.

The affair was also a time to get to know each student assistant and library staff

member through games and surprise numbers. This made the occasion more fun and

exciting.

Disaster Preparedness Lecture

On December 6, 2013, Prof. Jan Antoni Credo, first President of Silliman Univer-

sity Volunteer Fire and Rescue Unit gave a lecture on Disaster Preparedness to the

library staff. It was intended to make the staff aware of the tools to be used in case a

calamity strikes. Prof. Credo emphasized that when attending a seminar or any func-

tion, the first thing to look for in the seminar venue is the emergency exit instead of

the cafeteria. This is to make sure that in case of fire or earthquake the quickest and

safest place out of the building has already been identified, His advice to everyone

is to have presence of mind always in every calamity or emergency.

The lecture culminated with a demonstration on the proper use and handling of a

fire extinguisher.
