Indeed, pictures can set in a flood of memories..

yearning for more than what the eyes can

perceive…


Now, after 25 short summers, they will be meeting again…

Wiser, tougher and more confident…

Eager to relive how it was years ago…

Thrilled of again being with one’s circle of friends during their school days…

Excited of seeing old buddies and hearing old stories told so many times before,

yet one can’t help but to listen intently and wonder with expectations…


Meeting people personally is a lot better than scanning and poring over old and

blurry pictures…

And they are not about to reacquaint themselves with just ordinary people…

Nothing can take the place of having that opportunity of exchanging warm hugs,

handshakes, sweet greetings, smiles and of course, the laughter…

with people one have had the chance of doing so… 25 years ago!


Thus, the Silver Anniversary Reunion.

They are renewing ties with their batch mates, the DS Batch of 1978 !

MAJOR GOALS

1. To hold a meaningful celebration of the 25th Anniversary of Batch 78

2. To ensure the participation of members and mentors in this significant event

3. To provide a sustainable network for all future activities and projects of DS Batch 78


There were difficulties encountered in setting up a feasible organization due to varied reasons and circumstances.

The Organization

However, due to the common desire of the DS Batch 78 to forge ahead with the project, a Core Team was eventually created to oversee the various aspects of the preparations.


The Core Team is composed of the Chairmen and some members of the

several committees formed to handle the different activities and projects

formulated during the planning stage.


In order to anticipate the involvement of the membership, classmates were classified:

This classification gave the Core Team the flexibility on how to approach each group to

secure their cooperation and support.

The Planning Stage

As early as September of 2001, the members of DS Batch 78 started conceptualizing its 25th Anniversary celebration…

This protracted stage can only be described as …highly charged!


Projects and Activities

• DS 78 T-Shirts – “Wear that DS 78 with Pride , My Dear…” .

• DS 78 CD Soundtrack – “Those Songs In My Mind…”

• DS 78 Souvenir Magazine – “Something to Keep.. Something to Keep Us Going…”

Several designs were presented and evaluated but only the most appropriate was eventually produced.

Majority of the songs were selected by the members who attended the meetings. All cuts are from the late 70’s.

A most difficult project that served as the income generating strategy for the Silver Anniversary celebration.

With minimal knowledge but with a big heart, the website was developed to enable the global linkage of DS 78.

A celebration and thanksgiving of life’s simple joys, fun and friendship… together…with the family.

A night of nostalgic moments and socialization among classmates, friends and teachers of long ago.

• DS 78 Scholarship Program –

“ We will Dream Dreams for Others…”

All the aforementioned activities and projects were subjected to a time table and

were every so often evaluated during meetings for issues and concerns that may

delay or if ever, defer their execution.

A Scholarship Project that aims to benefit poor but deserving recipients in a sustainable, applicable and responsive approach. This project is in coordination with a reputable institution, the Helping Foundation, Inc.


Meetings

The number of meetings alone will show that the event was no ordinary undertaking, There were a total of 23 meetings, starting from September 7, 2001 up to December 22, 2003.


The meetings had been avenues for ideas, emotions and creativity to flow. The frequency has maintained the interest and fervor to achieve the goals of the DS Batch 78.

Meetings, both for the General Assembly and for the Core Team, have set into motion the coordination and implementation of the activities and projects, which includes, among others, the drive for public information dissemination… the use of radio, the internet, through posters and streamers and…

DS Batch ’78 to hold SILVER REUNION

The Dominican School high school batch ’78 will hold its silver anniversary reunion on December 27, 2003 at the Dominican School campus.Several meetings, led by the Senior Class organization President Jesus Arturo P. de Vera, are now underway.The planned activities during the event include motorcade, followed by a Eucharistic celebration at the school chapel and a program with its theme, “DS ’78 at 25: Keeping the Faith.”Social activities will also be scheduled in the evening.The alumni of batch ’78 who are residing in the United States will likewise hold a silver reunion in July 2003.These US based members have expressed full support and cooperation for the success of the December affair.Batch ’78 Silver Reunion gives each one the opportunity to rekindle old friendships, to reminisce the good old high school days, to witness how Dominican School has evolved through the years and to acknowledge the positive influence of the Alma Mater through their lives.The core committee aims to encourage the participation of all Batch ’78 alumni in commemorating the milestone and to be a part in the realization of the group’s project, which is a sustainable scholarship program.
