Silver Linings Playbook Silver Linings is an American romantic comedy film released in the United Kingdom on the 21 st November 2012. Rebelling against doctors medical advice Dolores Solatano played by Jacki Weaver discharges her son Pat Solatano Junior (Bradley Cooper, The Hangover) from a mental hospital where he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, as well as serving the minimum sentence from the courts of 8 months. Pat Junior moved back into his parents’ home in Philadelphia due to the courts discretion, after serving his time in the hospital to get better after assaulting wife Nikki (Brea Bee). He was back living under the same roof as his father Pat Solatano Senior (Robert De Niro, Meet the Fockers) who also suffers from a case similar to his son, as well as OCD. Nikki had a restraining order placed against her husband Pat Solatano Junior after she was assaulted; however this didn’t seem to stop Pat Junior from searching for her and trying to get his old school teacher job back, to prove to her he was ready to resume a safe marriage. With Nikki supposedly off limits, Pat Junior lives his life in search of a Silver Lining when what he doesn’t realise that neighbour Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence) the girl who helped him stay sane was what he was looking for. The film has a rating of 15 due to the excessive amount of taboo language displayed by Pat Solatano Junior and Pat Solatano Senior when their Bipolar disorders get the better of them. Alongside the foul mouthed play, moderate violence occurs between the two characters when Pat Junior wakes the neighbourhood up one night looking for his wedding video. The film was directed by David O’Russell who is also known for directing films such as; The Fighter (2010), I Heart Huckabees (2004) and Three Kings (1999). O’Russell was also the screenplay writer for this film alongside the author of the novel Matthew Quick. ‘The best romantic comedy of the year’ according to The Sunday Times, had a budget of $21,000,0 00 to stick to whilst producing this fabulous film in setting Pennsylvania using DIVE visual effects and Paint Collective VFX. In the opening weekend the film made $443,003 in America alone across only 16 screens, however by the end of the following week it was played on 393 screens in the UK, 255 screens in Italy and 60 screens across the Philippines. The film was produced by Weinstein Company, however distributed by hundreds of other companies worldwide such as Odeon, Studio Canal, Golden village pictures and CN entertainment. The ‘sublime’ film where ‘everything clicks’ was advertised via trailers , a song and posters including the teenage girl heart throb Bradley Cooper, a premier and banners.
