Featured Donor Our featured donor this month is the Silver-
ton United Methodist Church. They
have been creating healthy snack bags
for SACA since summer of 2011, and
have thus far provided us with over
15,000 bags! Each bag is decorated
and includes one protein item, two fruits
and one other snack. The white bags
are intended for children and include a small toy or book. The
brown bags are for teens and include a personal care item. Our cli-
ents appreciate having these bags available for their children and
teens while shopping in our food pantry. Thank you, United Meth-
Holiday Joy Thank you, Silverton community, for your contri-
butions during the fall and winter holidays. Through your generosi-
ty, we were able to provide the following to families in need:

food for 266 families, and financial assistance to 16 families.
December - Christmas Food Baskets to 241 families, pantry food
for 251 families, Toys 4 Tots to 43 families, sponsored gifts to 25
families and financial assistance to 22 families. (Continued on pg 4)

businesses held food drives

consider donating this year to SACA (instead of an organization in
Corvallis). They agreed and put together a
cold weather clothing drive called
“Operation Happy Feet”. Socks, hats, mit-
tens and scarves were donated and
brought to SACA. Thank you, Phi Deta Chi!

Volunteer of the Month Heidi Sanchez is our January volunteer of the
month. Heidi has been volunteering with us for a year and half. She’s been a huge
help with the last two summer galas and is currently coordinating the organization of
SACA’s clothing in our back storage.
Our director, Teresa, says, “Heidi was instrumental in organizing our gala silent auc-
tion baskets. She has a heart of gold and we are blessed to have her as one of our
volunteer rockstars.”
We appreciate Heidi’s willingness to volunteer, as well as her joy and enthusiasm!

Client Success Story A new client came to us after being released from thir-
teen years in prison, offering to be a volunteer. His hard work quickly earned him the
volunteer of the month award. We helped him update his resume and provided let-
ters of reference to potential employers. As of today, he has been working for the
same local company for over a year. We are so proud of his achievement and wish
him continued success!
Homeless Care Kits Thank you, Silverton community, for your outstanding
response to our Homeless Care Kits flyer. We have received over 100 care kits
and have been passing them on to our homeless clients as they come in to receive
food and/or services.
Mobile Dental Clinic In November, Medical Teams International mobile dental clinic visited
SACA. A client utilizing this service said, “The dental van is such a blessing! I was in so much
pain. My insurance would not cover the charges and I had no alternative but to suf-
fer. Dr. Kim was able to extract my tooth and the pain diminished. I am so thankful
for the mobile dental clinic and the no-charge dental services. I encourage anyone
needing dental assistance to sign up for the dental van.”
In January, the mobile dental clinic returned to SACA, providing extractions, fillings and exams,
free of charge, to those in need.
Backpack, Sock & Blanket Drive In November we asked our community for back-
packs, socks and blankets for our clients in need. We have been overwhelmed with generous do-
nations! Our clients have been very appreciative to have these needs met, especially with the
freezing temperatures we’ve experienced this winter.
Grant Thank you CenturyLink Family & Work Development Fund for the grant of $7250. Special
thanks to Eric Anderson for the grant nomination!

Food Project Our neighborhood Food Project has been running strong for
the last four years and we would love to have you participate! SACA is looking
for people to volunteer one day, every-other month as a Neighborhood Coordi-
nator.
We provide each participant with a green cloth bag, which can be filled with a
few items at a time after each shopping trip, then tucked away. As a coordinator,
you would simply pick up the bags from your “Neighborhood” on the 2nd Satur-
day every other month (February, April, June, August, October, December) and bring the bags to
SACA between 9am and 11am. When picking up bags, you would also provide empty replace-
ment bags, so your “Neighbor” can begin filling bags when they are ready to shop again.
A “Neighborhood’” doesn’t have to be a group of houses, it can be a groups of friends, your club or
co-workers, etc. If you would like to participate and/or become a coordinator, please contact
SACA. Thank you!
