Welcome to the 26th Environmental FairThe Environmental Fair is organised by Carshalton charity EcoLocal with the active help and involvement of over 150 volunteers who help make things happen. Some of us have been involved since the event first started in 1990 and for others this is their first time. We’re always keen to find new people who’d like to help out so please do get in touch… …and if you are free tomorrow we’d appreciate your help with the after-event clear-up in the park from 10.30am onward… come and say hello to us at the information stall (near the middle of the event). You can use the hash tag #envfair to tweet live today… and you can get updates on performance times, details of activities and other fair news by following @envfair. We hope you enjoy the local entertainers and musicians taking part on our three stages, all of which are powered entirely from renewable energy. Thanks also to the 150 stalls showcasing some of the depth of our local community activity as well as a diversity of environmental projects and political issues. There’s lots of tasty food and refreshments on offer – don’t forget to pick up a treat for later at stalls from our Wallington Farmers’ Market! And why not visit our new ‘Craft Beer Man’ bar! You will find children’s activities throughout the event – see the Children’s page in the programme for details. Visit EcoLocal’s Energy Roadshow by the Music Café to find out how to save energy and money at home and, whilst you are there, visit our inclusive cycling scheme stall next door! We would like to thank all those who have contributed to today’s 26th Environmental Fair including all our wonderful performers, stallholders, sponsors, advertisers and volunteers. From all of us – have a good day, give our volunteer stewards a friendly smile, and don’t miss the last FREE bus home!

CARSHALTON WATER TOWER

Set in the grounds of Carshalton House (St.Philomena’s), the Tower is an early 18th century building, but one which was ahead of its time. It supplied the House with running water by harnessing the outflow of the lake to turn a 14-foot wheel to pump water to the top of the tower. At the same time an Orangery on the south side formed a greenhouse, and water was also supplied to a Bath Room unique for its period. From April to September, you can see the Tower any Sunday afternoon between 2.30 and 5.00 for only £2, children free Additional openings in Septermber with free admission, 16th and 17th, 1.00pm to 5.00pm

The Twenty-Sixth Environmental Fair creditsThe Environmental Fair is a community event organised by local charity, EcoLocal, with special thanks to the following people who have helped organise, promote or set up the fair; Geoff Chandler, Gilli Cooling, John Courtman, George Dow, Ben Foss, Charlotte Gilhooly, Julie Gaywood, Hazel Gurr, Adam Haywood, Ben and Tina Henderson, Simon Honey, Mo James, Andrew Jenner, Les Kemp, John Kinnear, Guy, Kate and Jake Lancefield, Jason Lemin, Charles Martin, Gay McDonagh, Jack Morris, Tony and Ann Pattison, Maureen Peglar, Dr Alan Prosser, Ben Rafferty, Heather’s family and Dave Hoskins, Ben Takeuchi, Joe Teakle, Richard and John Thornton, Maeve Tomlinson, Liz Udall, Drew Underwood, Max Underwood and to everyone else who helps out on the day (too numerous to list) or who will help clearing up afterwards, plus all the bands and entertainers who performed for free. Sorry to anybody else we have inexcusably forgotten (and probably not for the first time) or whose name we have ever mis-spelt.

Sadly we have to report the passing of two former organisers, Chris Parry who was at the Fair’s inception and Diane Crow who guided the Fair though its difficult teenage years.

We are grateful to:– the following supporting organisations:Crunch Studios, EcoArts, Cyclism, First Wallington Scouts, Just Be Natural, A-B 24-7 couriers, The Challenge, and the Wallington and Carshalton Women’s Institute

– those providing services for the Fair:MTSH for Main Stage hire, Southwest Solar Solutions providing the Main Stage power, EcoLocal Mobile Solar Power Station for providing solar power for the Music Café and Performing Arts Marquee, City Sound for the Main Stage PA, Monaco Marquees, Wernick Event Hire for toilets, St. John Ambulance, London General Transport for the bus service, MJP printers, Veolia for bin hire and Crescent Hire.
