Coober Pedy and its moonscape surroundings, the painted desert with its colours laid bare by eons of erosion - all contrasted with the oasis that is Dalhousie, a collection of over 60 natural artesian springs in Witjira National Park. The Simpson Desert is 10,000 square kilometres of stony flats, windblown sand dunes, claypans & saltpans - arid desert beauty and endless sunset skies. From Birdsville we head south along “the Track” toward the northern Flinders Ranges which offer more travelling treasures along the path to Adelaide. SIMPSON DESERT TOUR: 15 Day Itinerary (Adelaide return) Day 1 Depart Adelaide approx 7.30am travelling via Pt Augusta to Glendambo. Day 2 We visit Coober Pedy before heading across the moon plain past Arckaringa Homestead and into the Painted desert. Day 3 Into Oodnadatta for supplies then continuing on into Witjira National Park on the edge of the Simpson Desert spending a night at Mt Dare. camping ground Day 4 We travel to on to Old Andado homestead and visit the Mac Clark Conservation Reserve as a day tour. Day 5 Relaxing & enjoying Dalhousie Hot Springs in the morning before heading into the desert to camp at Purnie Bore. Day 6 Traversing and exploring the Simpson Desert via the WAA line and the Knolls Track. Day 7 Traversing the Simpson Desert Day 8 Traversing the Simpson Desert we hope to get to Poepells Corner today. Day 9 Into Queensland we follow the QAA line traversing even bigger dunes heading for Big Red then into Birdsville for a 2 night camp. Day 10 A free day in Birdsville. Day 11 Travelling via Cordillo Downs we head for Innamincka and the Cooper Creek area to explore the Burke & Wills legend. Day 12 We visit the Dig Tree, Burkes grave, Kings Marker and finish it off with a boat tour at sunset on the Cooper Creek. Day 13 After a morning walk on the Cooper we head down the Strezlecki track to camp at Montecollina Bore in the Cobbler Sandhills. Day 14 We travel into the northern Flinders to Chambers Gorge for a bushwalk, before heading into Brachina Gorge for the nights camp. Day 15 Returning to Adelaide via Hawker, Orroroo and Laura arriving late afternoon. Simpson Desert
