reckoner of events and activities at our campus. I

On 31st July 2015 Bhoomi Madha Day was celebrated in a grandeur manner, when the students of Sankara
Polytechnic (SPC), Sankara Arts and Science (SANSAC) and Sankara Institute of Management Science (SIMS)
observed ten minutes silence with power and electronic gadgets off and by not touching the ground with foot duringthis time. They also formed a human chain with placards to raise awareness on preserving the mother earth. The
day was dedicated to our former President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and in his memory 84 saplings were planted
within the institution campus. Mr. P.R. Natarajan, Retd. Superintendent Engineer, TNEB sponsored the saplings
and oriented the students on the need to preserve earth and make it a livable planet for the future generations.
Swami Rabhya from Isha Yoga Centre highlighted the importance of Tree Plantation with short stories among the
students. The students of SANSAC and SPC also depicted “Go Green” and “APJ” in a formation as a tribute to
mother earth and Dr. Kalam.

Sankara Institute of Management Science, Coimbatore organized the first series of industry oriented guest
lecture for its students in the name of Get Invigorated on 4/08/2015. Mr. K. Bhupesh, Assistant General
Manager, Talent Acquisition, Suguna Foods Ltd was the speaker who addressed the students on “Corporate
Expectations and Leadership Skills”.
Get Invigorated II was organized on 12/08/2015 on the title “Forex, indices and commodities”. Mr. Samsingh
Rajkumar and Mr. Rajesh, Sernior Financial Analysts addressed the students on the basics of trading in
forex, commodities and indices. They gave an overview of how the capital market trading happens and the
scope for career growth for MBA graduates.
Get Invigorated III on 17/09/2015 when Mr. Aswin Murali, Manager, Growth Office, at Indofil IndustriesLimited, Mumbai addressed the students on “The Extra Mile”. Mr. Aswin gave an inspiring talk by narrating
his own experiences at IIM-Kashipur as a student to elaborate on the extra mile that was needed in today’s
competitive world to stand on top and win the corporate life.
Mr. Harish, Synergy Business School delivered talk for Get Invigorated IV on 23/09/2015 on the title “Project
Management” to the MBA students.. Mr. Harish spelled out the importance of planning and time management
in success of project and chalked out the various elements required for a successful project completion.
SIMS organized the Get Invigorated V on 25/09/2015 when Mr. Venugopal, BSE spoke on “Capital Market
Awareness” at the Elite Hall, SIMS block from 10.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Mr. Venugopal gave an orientationon the fundamentals of capital market operations. He elaborately explained the concepts of stock market
and trading terminologies, do’s and don’ts for successful investors.
The Get Invigorated VI on the topic “Bird’s Eye View of Indian Economy” was organized on 30/09/2015 when
Mrs. S. Saraswathi, Renowed Scholar of Economics gave an inspiring talk on the various elements of the
Indian Economy.

Sankara Institute of Management Science, Coimbatore organized Entrepreneurship Development Week
from 17th August to 21st August 2015 with the vision and mission of motivating the energetic students as
job providers than job seekers. Dr. R. Venkatapathy, Director, Bharathiar School of Management andEntrepreneurial Development, Bharathiar University Coimbatore inaugurated the ED Cell and delivered the
inaugural address. Mrs. B. Kayalvizhi, Assistant Director (Food) from MSME, Coimbatore branch addressed
on financial schemes, Grants, Subsidy and other assistance provided by various institutions such as SIDBI,
NABARD, MSME, NSIC, TIIC, NEEDS, and UYEGP etc. Mr. C. K Arivazhagan, a Certified Professional
Trainer provided practical training session on “Behavioural modification for upcoming entrepreneurs”.
Mrs. Rachel Prem, Founder, Point Perfect Solutions, Coimbatore delivered her address to the budding
entrepreneurs by sharing her own business success story and the problems she faced in setting up an IT
enabled Service Company. Mr. V. Devaraj, Auditor and Management Consultant, presented an overview of
financial Management, Costing and accounting aspects related to business units. In addition to the special
lecture, a business plan contest was also organized in the morning of 20th August 2015, at the department
level to bring out the creativity and entrepreneurial talents of students and the winners were given cash
award of Rs.1,000/- and Rs.5,00/- for I and II prizes respectively.

Activities @ SIMS
SIMS organized marketing fest on 19th August 2015. The students were grouped as ten members and
each group invested Rs. 1000 and exhibited their marketing skills by display of various products in their
stalls like games like ball game, fishing etc, T-shirts, snacks, juices, Ring throw, juice shop, halwa shop, juice shop and shake shop. A marketing quiz on logo and brand ambassadors were conducted for the
teams. The winners and runners up of the events were awarded. Prof. L. Gandhi, Head of the Department
and Dean Dr. Murugesan appreciated the zeal of the students and distributed the certificates.

Sankara Institute of Management Science (SIMS) commenced the 15th batch of MBA program with agrand inauguration on 24.08.2015 from 10.30 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. at the Elite Hall, SIMS block. The
inaugural was honoured by Mr. Mahendra Ramdass, Managing Director, Mahendra Pumps, Coimbatore
as the chief guest of the day. Miss Nithya Ramachandran, Deputy Joint Secretary, Sankara Educational
Institutions presided over the inaugural session.
Dr. S. Natarajan, Principal, SANSAC and Dr P. Murugesan, Dean – Academics felicitated the gathering.
Prof. L. Gandhi, Head of the Department, SIMS welcomed the gathering and Prof. K.P. Radhika
proposed the vote of thanks.

The freshers of SIMS were given a bridge course to enable easy transition from their undergraduate
levels. In this regard, the O-week was facilitated with series of events that gave them a platform to
understand the system at SIMS and thereof adapt to the corporate culture.

Activities @ SIMS
The students of SIMS expressed their gratitude to the faculty of SIMS by observing Teacher’s day in a
grandeur manner on September 7th 2015. The students had many cultural events to rejuvenate the
faculty like dance, music, skit etc. Miss. Dharani, II MBA welcomed the gathering and Mr. Azhar, II MBAproposed the vote of thanks.
Teachers Day Celebration
The first year MBA students were exposed to an outbound training program organised in association
with Leap Academy, Coimbatore. The students were divided into two batches of 45 students and the
outbound training took place in Mathampalayam camp site of Leap Academy, Karamadai.
Mr. Premnath and his team including Commander Velu and Miss. Neelima had organized series of
activities for the students. The outbound training program was organised for a period of 5 days from
7th September to 11th September 2015 for the two batches. Various games were organised to induce
the thought process skills, leadership skills and team building activities.

A grand new classroom for the I MBA students was inaugurated on September 11th 2015 by Deputy
Joint Secretary Miss. Nithya Ramachandran. The new classroom has state of art infrastructure withac classroom, smart furniture, wifi enabled, projectors and TV.

to Sangeetha Textiles, Annur on September 11th 2015.
The students learned the process of spinning to packing
of threads.

SIMS organized a two day Faculty Development Program on Research Fundamentals and Data
Analytics on 14th and 15th Sept 2015 at the Elite Hall of SIMS block. 40 participants, which
included teaching faculty, research scholars and corporate delegates from across Tamil Nadu,
participated in the FDP. The program was inaugurated in the forenoon of 14th September by
Dr. Rangalwar Srinivasan, Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting and Finance, Adigrat University, Ethiopia. Dr. K. Senthilkumar, Professor, College of Business and Economics,
Adigrat University, Ethiopia presented an overview of doing research. Dr. M.V. Subha, Associate
Professor, Department of Management Studies, Anna University Regional Centre, Coimbatore
discussed on the topic “Multivariate Data Analysis – Techniques and Tools”. Dr. Subha oriented on
the judgement to be based for the usage of multivariate data analysis techniques in research based
on various parameters. Dr. Mary Metilda, Associate Professor, Department of Management Studies,
Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College, Coimbatore gave hands on training along with adequate
theoretical content on Chisquare, one way ANOVA and regression using SPSS. Prof. L. Gandhi,
Head of the Department, SIMS welcomed the gathering and Prof. K.P. Radhika, SIMS proposed the
vote of thanks.

Activities @ SIMS
SIMS organized a faculty development program for the faculty of SIMS on the topic “Personal Growth
for Positive Living” on 23rd September 2015. Mr. Suresh Joseph, Trainer NLP, gave a stress buster
training with varied activities and thought provoking videos that rejuvenated the faculty towardspersonal growth for positive living.

The students were given a stress buster session at SIMS on 21.9.2015, when Prof. Shiny organized
an icebreaking session on questions that stimulated nostalgia among the students. The students
enjoyed the session and were rejuvenated.

Sankara Institute of Management Science organized the South West day for the MBA students on
29.09.2015. The students dressed in the attire that was part of the culture of South and Western
part. Prof. Thirugnana Sambanthan facilitated the debate among the students on “the best culture
suitable” for India.
