I am so proud of all the students, teachers, and staff as I walk around campus and see interesng lessons, engaged students in class, both in person and online, great rounes and inspiraonal posters displayed in the hall- ways on doors and bullen boards. There’s energy in the air and posive enthusiasm all around the school! Buddy groups met for the first me this week preparing for our first school assembly today. The cheerleaders executed a great pep rally Wednesday for the opening football game! There were cheer stunts, spirit drawing excitement, screeching bale cries, and entertaining dancing. The boys were ready for their first six man game; they played well giving the crowd excitement and ending in a e! The volleyball girls started the week with all teams victorious! We are proud of our cardinal spirit leaders and athletes! Way to Go Cardinals! GRANDPARENTS are invited to mass next week with our school family and to a recepon in their honor Thursday at the outdoor Children’s Chapel. We want to recognize and honor them for their support to family, community and Catholic Educaon! Naonal Grandparents Day is next Sunday, September 13. There will be another delicious drive-thru dinner Sunday at the KC Hall. It is picnic style and put on by the KCs and St. Rose HSA. Come on out! We appreciate the support working and buying plates! Yesterday, September 3 was the feast day of St. Gregory the Great! He is the Patron Saint of England and Teachers. Gregory founded six monasteries on his Sicilian estate and became a Benedicne monk in his home at Rome. Ordained a priest, he became one of the pope's seven deacons, and served in the East as papal representa- ve in Constannople. He was recalled to become abbot, and at age 50 was elected pope of Rome. He was direct and firm. He removed unworthy priests from office, forbade taking money for many services, and emped the pa- pal treasury to ransom prisoners and care for persecuted Jews and vicms of plague and famine. He was very con- cerned about the conversion of England, sending 40 monks from his monastery. He is known for reform of the litur- gy and strengthening respect for doctrine. He is also known for the "Gregorian" chant. Gregory lived in a me of strife with invading Lombards and difficult relaons with the East. When Rome was under aack, he met with the Lombard king. An Anglican historian wrote: "It is impossible to conceive what would have been the chaoc state of the Middle Ages without the medieval papacy; of which, the real father is Gregory the Great." His book, Pastoral Care, on dues and qualies of a bishop, was read for centuries aſter his death. He described bishops as physicians whose main dues were preaching and enforcement of discipline. In his own down-to-earth preaching, Gregory was skilled at applying daily gospel to needs of his listeners. Called "the Great," Gregory has been given a place with Augusne, Ambrose, and Jerome as one of the four key doctors of the Church. Gregory was content to be a monk, but he willingly served the Church in other ways when asked, especially when he was called to be Bishop of Rome. "Perhaps it is not aſter all so difficult for a man to part with his possessions, but it is certainly most difficult for him to part with himself. To renounce what one has is a minor thing; but to renounce what one is, that is asking a lot" (St. Gregory, Homilies on the Gospels). Have a great Labor Day weekend! Take Care and God Bless!
