Texas Circuit Titles Send Schuster & Flynn to raM national Circuit Finals rodeo

By Tanya randall Tiany Schuster and Ari-Anna Flynn will represent the Texas Circuit at the RAM National Circuit Finals Rodeo in Kissimmee, Fla. Schuster won the year end championship, while Flynn won the Circuit Finals Rodeo, held over New Year’s Weekend in Waco, Texas. ItwasthefirstTexasCircuitFinalsqualificationforSchuster,who had the event made early in the 2016 season. “It wasn’t even a plan or a goal,” said Schuster, who wanted to thankhersignificantotherEdwinCameronforhissupport.“Beingcentrallylocatedallowsmetogoanydirectionandhitalotof thosetougher than nails Texas rodeos. Those were the rodeos I went to and I happened to do well, really well.

“I don’t know how the outside world looks at it, but when I was amemberof theSoutheasternCircuitIalwayslookedattheTexasCircuitlikethecreamof thecrop,perse.WhenIwasinthewarmuppen,KellyBruneraskedmehowIwasenjoyingmyfirstcircuitfinals,wasiteverythingIthoughtitwouldbe.Isaidevenif every-

one here was in their Rookie year, it’s the Texas Circuit. Just look around at who was there! The Texas Circuit holds so much prestige. ItwasjustsoexcitingformetobethereandIwasreallygratefulfortheopportunitytohavethatchance.” Atthecircuitfinals,Schusterstartedoff with12-year-oldReclaimFame, the talented Dash Ta Fame gelding who carried Madeleine GreentotheInternationalProRodeoFinalsandMichaelDuffietonumerouswinsandarenarecordsontheEastCoastwhileundertheownershipof SouthernRoseRanch.SheranJSYKImFamous—who was her biggest winner throughout the season—in thesecondandthirdroundtofinishthirdintheaverage.Sheaddedanother $3,070 to her early 2017 WPRA World Standings lead. I ended up staying around Stephenville. I was in the Prairie Circuitlastyearandit’sgreat,butIwantedtodosomethingdiffer-ent. I like the Texas rodeos. I think it’s a little tougher and I wanted toseeif myhorsesandmyself couldcompetewithallthosegirls.” Sherodetwofullbrothersraisedandtrainedbyherfamily—SunnysTwoSocks(“Hollywood”)andTobysPocoMisterio.BotharebyQuickLittleLenaandoutof theSticksAnStonesmareMsJanes Stone. “I decided to run Toby because my goal was to try to win the average to make it to Kissimmee,” she said. “Toby is my consistent horse.Myfirstrun,Iwentinandwasjustfocusedononebarrelata time, one run at a time. That was my new motto.” Inthefirstround,FlynnandTobyfinishedsecondtoJanaBeanand Dashing Klee. They didn’t place in the second round, which was won by Alexa Lake on Sure Down Dash. “Myfirstrunwasgreat,”shesaid.“ThesecondrunIwasjustconcentratingonfirstbarrel,secondbarrel,thirdbarrel,runhome.”Going into the third round, Lake had the lead in the average and Flynn was sitting second. “It was super close,” said Flynn. “I was sitting in there watching; Iwassecondtolast.ShehitthefirstbarrelandIwassupersadforher.Ijusttoldmyself tojustgetaroundthebarrels—onebarrelatatime.Itendeduppayingoff.Itwasn’ttheprettiestrunwe’veevermade, but it worked.” JillVossandLeanMeanBlueDeanwonthethirdroundwiththefastesttimeof therodeo,a15.86.EventhoughFlynnandToby didn’t draw a check, it gave them an average victory and total earningsof $4,605,whichcountstowardsthe2017WPRAWorldStandings. “My third run was nerve-wracking,” she added. In 2016, she and TobyhitthefirstbarreltowinthePrairieCircuitFinalsRodeo.“Hewas acting a little more hyper than normal. I really checked him downforthefirstandabouthitthefirstbarrel.Hehadagoodsec-ond barrel and I thought was going to hit the third barrel. I was so
