Thank You Raising the Roof at Camp Barakel

In July Randy Gosk, Christopher

Reynolds, Mark Reynolds, Jay Sumner

and Calvin Wolf helped with a few

roofing projects at Camp Barakel. They

shingled over 2000 square feet of roof

in 4 days , including one house and two

garages.

Bethany set a goal to raise $2000

towards this project. Thanks to the

generous love offerings given we raised

the money needed and were able to

accomplish this debt free for Camp

Barakel.

Tribute to Paul DeLeeuw 1931-2015

Paul Edward De Leeuw, Sr. was born to Christian parents on March 30,

1931. Paul married Joetta Silvernale in 1954. They raised two sons, Chip &

Dave that both also have been serving the Lord. In 1955 he earned a B.S.

degree in Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. He continued to

take courses through Wayne State, Henry Ford Community College, U of M,

Detroit Bible College, and Moody Bible Institute. He worked for Ford Motor

Company in several locations, finally coming to this area, where they joined

Bethany Baptist Church in 1969. Together they both served the Lord as

deacon, Sunday School teacher/superintendent, and youth sponsors for

years. Paul worked with Christian Service Brigade in Grand Rapids, Belleville,

and at Bethany for a total of 22 years, when God called them to full time

service with Christian Service Brigade in 1978.

Paul quit his secular job and stepped out in faith to follow God’s leading. Over the following 22 years

Paul served Christian Service Brigade working as area representative, camp director, and was

eventually responsible for all Brigade activities in Michigan and Indiana. Joetta assisted as camp cook

and nurse. Bethany supported Paul & Joetta from 1978-2005. They remained active, as Paul’s

philosophy of retirement was that “Retirement should be based on the tread, not the mileage.” In the

mid-nineties, Paul had total replacements in both knees and both hips, but he always kept going.

In April of 2015, after a lifetime of “Winning and Training Boys for Christ,” Paul was promoted to

heaven. We love him and we miss him, but Paul has finally reached his ultimate goal – eternity with

God.

to stay in the loop on all the details.

the Red Oaks Waterpark. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy a day in the summer sun

with friends having a great time. Cost: $5 and includes a picnic lunch! What a

deal! Turn in your money to Robyn Miller no later than Sunday Aug 2. Meet at

church at 10:30am and back by 4:30pm.

What would summer be without a trip to the best amusement park in the world?

With rides like the 425 foot tall Top Thrill Dragster, the 300 foot Millennium Force,

the Gatekeeper winged roller coaster, the classic Raptor, the newly renovated and

renamed Rougarou and so much more, Cedar Point is the destination for fun in

the summer time. Cost is $40 and includes your ticket and transportation. You

End of Summer Party Wednesday, August 19th @ 6:30pm at church or 7pm at Millers — JR & SR HI

Sometimes you just have to pause and look back at all that has happened in

the 10 weeks and re-experience it all through pictures and video. And while we’re

at it, we’ll play some games, have a campfire, and eat some food as well. We will

do all of that at the Miller’s house starting at 7pm. If you need a ride there and

back, meet at church at 6:30pm. We should be back between 10:30-11pm.

SPOTLIGHT ON MISSIONS

The goals of Bethany’s Missions Committee...to equip and enable members and friends of Bethany to be

personally involved in obeying the Great Commission...to provide a support system for our missions

families who are following the Lord in reaching out into the world.

Missionary of the week August 2015

Aug 2 – Dan & Mirielle Murphy are church planters in Ireland.

Before Ireland they ministered in the Netherlands, where they both

grew up. The Murphys raised four children and numerous foster

children. Recently they adopted another foster child named Vicki. They

are in the process of moving to be closer to the church, where they currently work. Dan is a

second generation missionary. Bethany first supported his parents, Tom & Nancy Murphy.

Aug 9 – John & Carol Koenke worked in the Philippines for many years. Currently they are in the States

due to family concerns. John has been teaching a ‘Making Sense of Islam’ class

at several churches. Pray for the Koenkes’ as they deal with family issues and

seek the Lord’s will for future direction.

Aug 16 – Shirley Chumley served in the Congo, the Comoro Islands, and England with Africa

Inland Mission. In retirement she teaches English to recent immigrants. This ministry gives

her many opportunities to witness. Shirley is praising the Lord for His provision of her insulin

for the remainder of this year.

Aug 23 - Barbara Blackburn is a Bible translator with Wycliffe. She spent many years in the Philippine

Islands learning and writing the Blaan language, and then translating Scriptures into this

language. She and her partner Mary Rhea have completed the New Testament and several

Old Testament books. The 5000 Scriptures have just been printed for the second time and

should be enroute to the Blaan people.

Aug 30 – Dick & Vicki Gascho work out of Greater Europe Mission headquarters in

Colorado. They have recently moved down the mountain and into the city of

Mammoth. Dick’s ministry includes coaching, mentoring, and training missionaries

and church leaders on three continents. Vicki works with an international planning

team helping young leaders to learn, grow and excel. Vicki was recently diagnosed

with lung cancer. They are the parents of Rick & Adam Gascho, also part of Bethany’s missionary family.

Exciting News!! From KidsCamp 2015

During Everest KidsCamp 2015; the children joyfully brought in

their pennies, nickels, dimes, and even dollars during the penny

March. The money went to purchase Bibles for children across the

world in Thailand. I am humbled to share with you that our kids raised enough money to send 258

Bibles to the Thai children. Join in on praising the Lord for this incredible gift...from His kids....for more

of His kids!! Submitted by Kathy Tucker
