Single use instruments are relatively high risk as many aresurgically invasive and therefore classified as lla devices. They aretherefore subject to greater levels of control than reusables, whichare Class l devices except those used on central nervous tissue.Class l devices can be sold without any authorisation from anindependent third party a Notified Body. Class lla devices suchas Instrapac require a Notified Body to assess the production ofthe device to Annex lV, V or Vl of the Directive and issue acertificate of conformance before a CE mark can be applied andthe product legally sold.

UK Production FacilityRobinson Healthcare retain control over the production ofInstrapac products by checking, packing and sterilising in the UKat the companys large manufacturing facility in Worksop,Nottinghamshire. A large Class 7 cleanroom provides hygienicpacking facilities, with sterilisation carried out in the onsite twinchamber steam autoclave or at an EO gas sterilisation facility inthe UK.

Products comply with the relevant British Standards for surgicalinstruments and the quality control team ensure that productsmeet specification before being released for packing. All metalproducts are manufactured using medical grade stainless steel.The Instrapac range is packaged in high quality, easy to peelpacks which feature indicators to verify that the contents aresterile. All procedure packs are presented wrapped in a sterile fieldfor convenience.
