Quotations: use MLA in-text citations

Rhetorical Strategies: identify device/s being used in quotations.

Effect/Purpose: what is the effect of this strategy on the audience? How is the audience moved/influenced towards the author’s purpose?

“Many are daily coming from the east, west, north, and south; many that were very lately in the same miserable condition that you are in, are now in a happy state, their hearts filled with love to him who has loved them” (125, lines 96-99).

Logos- appeal to logic Edwards is telling his audience the logical thing to do is to change their hearts. He tells the audience that they will be sent to fiery pits at any moment if they do not undergo this personal conversion. The logical thing to do is to avoid hell and instead have faith in God.
