1Palaces

Pena National Palace macmuseo: From the distance, the two huge twin

smokestacks of the National Palace of Sintra betray itspresence. In their dependencies, you can appreciate thecharacteristics of the Manueline style and a lot of the typicalPortuguese tile mosaics. They also emphasize the artisanartistry of the rooms. In one, there are the 72 coats of arms ofthe Portuguese nobility. There is one space with a missingshield, which, apparently, was omitted after the noblemanbetrayed the trust of the king.

Francisco Dominguez Penis: Located at a considerableheight, from which it overlooks the entire valley, the PenaPalace allows you to enjoy a stunningly beautiful landscapefrom any angle. It is surrounded by a large garden that offersa walk of up to six miles. In the garden the extensivevegetation, rare trees and beautiful surroundings are adelight. This is an idyllic location and certainly worth the visit.Sintra has much to offer, but it is always a surprise to find a☎ 351 219 237 300 - Estrada da Pena, Sintra

Cliffs

Cabo da Roca Galiciantraveler: The Cabo da Roca is the westernmost

point of Europe, and the truth is it is incredible and beautiful. Irecommend a trip by car from the village of Azenhas do Mar,Praia da Maca and heading south to Cabo de Roca. The areais great for the views, the lighthouse is a tourist office and forabout 5 euros they give you a diploma that says you havegone to the most western point in Europe. There is also a barand restaurant that I have not tried, so I can not give anopinion of it. You must be careful because locals told us thatthere may be theft in the parking, although there is a securityguard present. I recommend it to anyone but here you havesome photos so you can see how incredible it is.

Jing Wen: It's under the cliff, you need climb down to thebottom, there is a spring from the mountain, we can see itwhen we climbing, it's a secret place, almost no body comehere, it's unforgettable.

2Castles

Castle of the Moors Raul Gonzalez-Corroto Perez: This is a place with a

great view, since from its ramparts you can see the grandeurof the Palace of Pena and Regaleira. This wall invites us towakl through its many steps. The day I visited I sawsomething I did not expect, on the trail that goes up, aftergoing through an old chapel, archaeologists discovered tw2obodies with brushes just weeks ago. It seems almost as oldas this structure. And the chapel, for that week, a few daysafter being there, I saw on TV later on. They discovered otherbodies lying under a thin layer of earth for which many peoplehad walked, including myself. That's something you can notsay every day, lol. For those ve do not believe there will besome of the pictures I took that day.

3Palaces

Monserrate Palace Sasa72: This beautiful palace of Sintra is currently being

restored. The city is a World Heritage Site because it haseverything: castles, museums, and palaces. It is a charmingplace where everything seems magical, including thebeautiful coastline. There are a few miles of beaches actually,so it would be a perfect place for a holiday. Other palacesthat really struck me were the Pena Palace (located in the topof a hill and surrounded by lush vegetation) and Seteais andRegaleira.

4Abbeys

Convent of the Capuchos CeJota: The Capuchin Convent is situated a few

kilometers from Sintra in the middle of a mountain. To visit ityou have to buy the ticket at the entrance or buy 1 for 2 daysthat lets you see more of the attractions close by. Its maincharm lies in its peace, especially if you visit when there aren´t too many people. It is worth visiting.

5Gardens

Pena Palace Park odiomadrugar: Normally when you get to Sintra you take

one of the buses that go up to the Pena Palace and theMoorish Castle. But I got the bright idea to convince thegroup to walk, of course, I didn't know the exact path andnothing was further from my intention to almost kill us(anyone can do the exercise, but my group was not verymotivated). Yes, the effort was worth it to us all because thetrip was spectacular. For hikers, I really recommend walkingup, the palace is beautiful and the castle too, but really themost impressive thing was the vegetation of Sintra.

6Of Cultural Interest

Sintra Old Town (Vila Velha) Raquel Faria: One of the best things about living in the

Lisbon area, is to explore the surroundings, and Sintra issuch a treasure to discover. You can't help being enchanted.I've been there twice and surely want to return. It's an old andvery traditional village, with loads of restaurants, cafes andbakeries, and shops where you can buy souvenirs and learna bit more about this adorable place. The tiny streets, theclumsy paths... If you go through the mountains, you'll able toinhale so many freshness provided by the big trees andplants, and it's such a great feeling. Pure air. All the waythrough the mountains and trees, you'll find the mostromantic, old and amazing castles and palaces to visit, suchas the Pena Palace, the Monserrate Palace and the Castle ofthe Moors. It's an amazing journey visiting Sintra. I hopeyou're able to get to know this whimsical village.

7Historical Monuments

Poço Iniciático Sofia Santos: One of the mysteries of Regaleira is its

"little Iniciático". It is believed that it was used in rituals ofinitiation. They say you can find a relationship between its 9"floors" in the play "do Conceito Rosicrucian Cosmos". It is anunderground gallery with a spiral staircase that has columnsthat go down to the bottom of the well. Each "floor" of theladder is 15 degrees and each one refers to a part of Dante'sDivine Comedy, the 9 circles of hell, paradise, or purgatory. Atthe bottom of the well is the compass made of rose marblethat lies on a Templar cross where you will see the symbol ofCarvalho Monteiro (the owner of the Regaleira) , and at thesame time the indication of the Rosicrucian Order.

Fonte Mourisca Nuria G: La Fonte Mourisca, constructed in 1922 by the

sculptor José da Fonseca, is situated in the center of Sintra, close to other attractions in the city such as the ParkLiberdade or City Hall. This is an input fountain with manycarved details, like the shield of Sintra. To get to Sintra bypublic transport, you can use the train from Lisbon and leavesyou in the Sintra station.

9Statues

Statue of Neptune lamaga: The almost magical sculpture of Poseidon

holding some of the columns of Sintra Palace, Portugal weredetails that I liked at this dream palace. Manueline style, itfollows the maxim of realism, has a maritime theme and themagic and romance that characterizes it having a typicallyPortuguese artistic style. I especially liked it as people are notoverly attached to passing under the arches (they re moreconcerned about making a line to get to the rooms of theking).

Freedom Park Nuria G: The Freedom Park is located in the center of

Sintra, close to the National Palace. It's a pretty big park, withmany benches and full of greenery and trees. The mostoriginal feature of this park, is that it is full of large figures thatrepresent various animals, both real and imaginary. Thesefigures are very colorful and give a fun touch to the park. Inone of the areas of the park you can also find some ducks, chickens and peacocks that dancing around. It is definitelyworth the visit. The park is very cool and original.

11Viewpoints

Miradouro da Villa Víctor Gómez - machbel: Also known as Da Miradouro

Ferraria, from this viewpoint we can see part of the historictown of Sintra, and the basin of the river that separates thispart of the new zone. The views are not anything special, withmany houses in the middle, but going to the lookout point is anice short walk through Sintra, a town that you have to take iteasy and walk for maximum enjoyment.

Cabo da Raso Lighthouse Carlos Olmo: The lighthouse of Cabo Raso, installed at

Fort S. Brás, was approved by the Lighthouse Committee(April 1885) - a 15 meter tower with housing that could emit awhite flash every minute. Due to budgetary problems an oldOlhão optical device was finally installed, it was mounted ona carriage that was collected during the day, with a range 5miles. The 13 meter iron tower was finally built in 1915, thefocal plane was 23 meters. In 1922 a new optical device wasinstalled, its characteristic red light was fixed to 2 flashesevery 10 seconds. Sintra is a beautiful city well that's worth aleisurely visit.

12Markets

Sintra Market Raffa Coffee: Sunday morning ... day trip to Sintra ... we

were on our way to the upper area, where there are severalpalaces and parks as well as the city centre, but beforearriving, what did I see? A market! We parked the car andwent to check it out. The colours of the vegetables, the smellof the delicious local bread with chorizo, the smiling faces onthe vendors ... what a great atmosphere! It's sure to put youin a good mood. Here you can buy plants and flowers, birds, carpets ... a real show! It's not the best thing to see in Sintra, but definitely worth a look, and enjoying a hot sausagestraight from the oven is wonderful!

São Pedro de Penaferrim Raffa Coffee: If you're travelling in Portugal, a day trip

here is a must. I went with my faithful travelling companions. Before arriving in the centre, we passed through Sao Pedrode Sintra. The area is very pretty, full of narrow streets, shops, wine bars, and more. Beautiful houses. A trulyrecommended stop, especially if the market is taking place.

1Cafés

Cafe A Piriquita Guillermo García: The truth is that this cafe is one of the

most charming places I visited on my trip to the Portuguesecoast. It is hard to decide which is more delicious, thequeijadas that are typically sweet and travesseiros or theservice of the lady ve runs the place. If you visit Sintra do notfail to give a tribute in the form of tea.

2Restaurants

Bengal Tandoori Sintra Barbie: This restaurant in Sintrais situated a few meters

from the main square of Piriquita. Upon entering it is verydark but I was really surprised by the quality of the dishes at avery good price. Notable vegetable dishes on offer are Malaikofta, which is the house specialty and consists of friedvegetables with whipped cream, Veg Kurma (vegetables aldente with coconut milk and fried rice) and the garlic nan, abread-like pizza dough with garlic. All of this including dessertand coffee for € 20. Highly Recommended

3Restaurants

Restaurante Quinta Da Regaleira

Mauricio Rodriguez L: Yesterday we spent around 10hours in the house Quinta do Regaleira, Sintra,. They openeda restaurant within the area as 10 hours of hiking works up anappetite. The extensive menu is made up of salads and pastawith fruit and fungi from the terrain, but the star is the venisonwith wild fruits,a tremendous feature is the mango salad andmushroom mango ice cream desserts or cheese. It is notexactly economic but the atmosphere is worth it.

4Tapas Bars

Xentra Restaurant and Bar pacoalface: Portuguese food buffet for €8.50 without the

drink or coffee. It's quite spacious, and never runs out of food, the dishes are constantly changing, so you have alwaysvariety, and if it runs out, you know something different willreplace it. Highly recommended if compared with the prices ofothers restaurants in the area.

5Restaurants

Restaurante A Taverna Anna Martinelli: This was the first restaurant we found

after we left the Moorish Castle in Sintra. It's in a small alleyright next to the bus stop that takes you to the castles. Acomfortable, warm place - nice in winter! The menu isextensive, with several choices of pasta and meat. Theservice was very fast. Portugal is always a good place to eat,as the prices are low.

Restaurants

Pizza-ghetti Ju Afonso: It was Sunday and we were looking for a

restaurant to eat in Lisbon, when we decided on a whim tofollow the sign to Cascais. This is a beautiful seaside townwith an eternal holiday atmosphere. There are plenty ofrestaurants on the main street, and most are international. The Pizzagheti was hidden in a little corner. We orderedgarlic bread to start for 3.50, and I was pleasantly surprisedwhen I saw it was actually a round mass like a mini pizza withspices on top. The main course was a large pizza withcheese, ham, and mushrooms. It cost about 16 euros. Andthe great thing about being in Cascais was that after dinner,we could go for a nice stroll along the sand!

Tivoli Sintra hotel C.: The best thing about this hotel is its location and

parking, which is guarded and in front of the hotel. It's lessthan one minute from the square where the tour buses departfrom, close to transportation, the tourist office, and cafes ifyou don't have your car with you. However, keep in mind thatthe hotel is getting on a bit, so the quality might not be whatyou'd expect from a 4 star. Still, it's fine as a place to sleep, and I wouldn't hesitate to go back!
