Overview

Sir Padampat Singhania University has been established by an Act of the State

Government of Rajasthan in 2007, under the aegis of the JK Cement Group of

companies just outside of Udaipur, Rajasthan. SPSU is a private fully residential

University dedicated to provide a unique environment & opportunity for its students and

scholars to whet their personalities in a robust academic system and to enjoy a first

class experience of campus life.

Our Ethos

SPSU has a vision to be a leader among peer educational institutions by building a

tradition of innovation, inculcate problem solving skills and interdisciplinary

collaboration. SPSU imparts education through creative course content, modern

education methodologies and learning processes. The curriculum is contemporary and

is reviewed annually. The faculty is hand-picked and has further distinguished

themselves with various academic attainments and recognition from Indian and foreign

universities. Conferences and workshops are organised regularly by the different

departments to keep abreast of the developments in their chosen fields of interest. Our

academic curriculum necessitates that students opt for electives in their chosen area for

a wider perspective and in-depth understanding of the subjects. Students also

undertake internships, projects and accreditation programmes of their own volition.

Extra – Curricular Activities

At SPSU, students work and play hard. All extra and co-curricular activities are

organised under Clubs at the University. SPSU prides itself in having a student driven

culture on campus. Students are exposed to real life experiences when they conduct

the University admissions, design and create our website and manage various clubs

and cells. The clubs’ activities range from drama, writing, debates, dancing, computer

programming, machine-designing to sports like cricket, football, volleyball, badminton

and table tennis. organisational skills, ingenuity and innovation of the students are

tested when they arrange the University’s signature event "Panache" -our annual tech-

management and cultural festival.

Industry Accredited Programmes

SPSU has academic arrangements with several multinational companies who have

industry accredited offerings. These programmes, though not part of our regular

curriculum, is brought to selected students in addition to their degree programme. Some

Microsystems and PTC.

Placement & Training

Placements

Training and Placements are an integral part of the degree programmes (B.Tech &

MBA) at SPSU. The University places very high importance on the student’s

employability and thus has a Training and Placement Cell in place which networks with

the Industry on a regular basis. The cell has successfully forged ties with the some of

the reputed companies in various sectors from Telecommunications, IT-Software,

Retailing, Manufacturing, Consulting and FMCG to Non-Banking financial services and

the Indian Army.

The cell also organizes personality development programmes, workshops and Interview

skills for students. This is done in association with some of the leading HR professionals

in the country.

In the placement process all the students who had not opted out of the placement have

been successfully placed from the School of Engineering and the School of

Management.

Two students have got International Placements. They have been appointed by a

Swedish organisation and will be based out of Gothenborg, Sweden.

The Placement office is equipped to handle and support the placement process at every

stage. Arrangements for pre-placement talks, group discussions and interviews are

organised by the placement office and student volunteers. Facilities to aid the

placement and training process include:Â Illustratively, there are air-conditioned

furnished rooms for interviews and group discussions, computerised offices with Wi-Fi

connectivity and reprographic aids, auditoriums close to the office to conduct pre-

placement talks and tests and student volunteers to assist on the day of visit and

through the selection process.

Excellence & Scholarship

Excellence is central to the ethos of the University. It is merit which determines

admission, classifies students into sections and allocates hostel accommodation. SPSU

offers scholarships to students based on their excellence in academics. The norms for

tuition fee waiver for the students are:

1. Overall topper of the University in the semester - 100%

2. Students securing (in the semester) GPA of 9.0 and above - 70%.

3. Student who stand first in their branch in the semester - 60%

University Infrastructure

The SPSU campus has wireless connectivity in all the academic areas which

encourages students for continuous improvement of their knowledge and resources.

The University has 325 Mbps internet connectivity which comprises 300 Mbps Fibre

Optic connectivity from BSNL, 25Mbps radio link connectivity from Tata Teleservice.

Each student at the University has a separate email ID with dedicated 7 GB space.

All laboratories in the University are state-of-the- art. Each laboratory is equipped with

modern and sophisticated equipment to facilitate practical learning.

All classrooms are spacious and equipped with modern furniture, green boards and

LCD projectors.

The Library is well stocked with books and magazines. It has access to important

national and international journals – both as hard copies and as e-journals, the library

remains open for 12 hours every day. The library is fully computerised

Being a residential university all the students are required to stay in the hostels. The

campus has separate hostels for boys and girls, equipped with modern amenities like

geysers and high speed internet connectivity. Internet connectivity is available to each

student in the hostels.

The campus has two separate messes – one vegetarian and the other non-vegetarian,

each with completely separate contractors, cooking utensils, cutlery and dining halls. In

addition, there is a canteen and a US Pizza outlet on the campus.

Mentorship Initiative

The University has a very successful mentorship programme to foster the culture of

strong bonding between students and academia. Mentorship is a helping relationship in

which an individual with more experience lends knowledge, advice and encouragement

to a person with less experience. Students in the University are divided into small

groups and each group is looked after by a mentor. The basic aim of the mentorship

programme is to provide a holistic environment where prospective engineers develop as

socially responsible human beings.

Environment Friendly campus

We are moving to a green campus. We use recycled water for all our horticultural

requirements. We have sewage treatment plants to treat our waste. The university has

a garbage segregation and disposal system in place. Each building has a reverse

osmosis water treatment commercial plant to provide clean and safe water across the

campus.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES

The University has two schools - School of Engineering and School of Management.

The programme offerings at SPSU follow a contemporary curriculum, taught by a

competent faculty and are underpinned by an outstanding educational infrastructure..

The University offers programmes leading to undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral

degrees in the areas of engineering and management.

Each academic programme has a different eligibility criteria and a well-defined course

structure.

Under Graduate

B.Sc Biotechnology (Honours)

Duration: 3 Years

Eligibility for admission

50 % in aggregate in class 12th or equivalent in science stream of any

recognized Secondary Board in any discipline of any state. Candidates must

have cleared 12th examination on the day of admission.

Interview: All candidates have to appear for an interview entrance to be

conducted by the university. Final selection will be based on academic records

(12th Standard) and score at the interview.

Scholarship: If you top the university examinations, there is provision for scholarship

(waiving off of tuition fee depending on the grade points)

BBM (Full time)

It is a degree programme leading to BBM. It is a rigorous course of study to equip a

student with techniques of management. Details of fee and subjects of study for each

semester are given. Any student hailing from 12th standard, irrespective of his/her

background in commerce, science or arts will be eligible to seek admission to BBM

course. Students who ultimately wish to pursue a professional course in Management

needs orientation from the beginning and, therefore, this course is being offered to

ensure grooming of students for the course. This course provides an opportunity to

specialize in Management science where total exposure to various aspects of

Management science will be given.

It is a three year residential course which aims at developing commerce students as

well arts and science students to ultimately select professional courses for better

employment opportunities. B.Com Honours course has been designed in such a way

that the course content incorporates all those subjects whose exposure will pave way to

take up any professional course without any difficulty. The course content is conducive

to courses of CA,CS,ICWA,MBA and Professional course of AIA(Association of

International Accountants, London)A student may simultaneously pursue these

professional courses with B.Com Honours course.

WITH B.COM HONOURS COURSE (THREE YEAR COURSE) A STUDENT WITH

50% MARKS IN CLASS 12TH MAY PURSUE AIA PROGRAMME and other courses

also because it BLENDS all MODULES NAMELY FOUNDATION COURSE,

PROFESSIONAL LEVEL-1 AND PROFESSIONAL LEVEL-2. AIA HAS NOW

ACADEMIC MOU WITH THE INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS OF

INDIA,NEW DELHI.

With B.Com .Honours course coaching for all these professional courses shall be

provided and special attention is to be given for better communication skills and

personality development of students. Students coming from nearby towns will find it

more suitable because while on campus they will get coaching of all professional

courses under one roof without paying extra in addition to normal fee of B.Com. Honour

The work experience should be verified by the immediate superior in the

organization which shall be examined by a committee constituted by the Vice-

Chancellor of this university. Decision of the committee shall be final.

This is a part time, non-residential programme. However, hostel accommodation

may be available subject to a vacancy in the hostels and will be charged

separately.

Advance Diploma in Accounting (AIA LONDON)

The programme is structured in such a manner that the course content prescribed by

the Association of International Accountants is covered substantially.

The programme blends the three module of AIA study with SPSU curriculum. While

studying, the student can appear and clear each of the three modules along with this

programme.

The three AIA modules are:

Module 1 - Foundation Course

Module 2 - Professional Level – I

Module 3 - Professional Level – II

Students with commerce degree, CAs, CSs and Cost Accountant will get exemption

from Module 1, while others will have to clear the Foundation Course.

Substantively, students with commerce background will do the following:

After first semester they will appear for the SPSU exam and Module 2 –

Professional Level – I.

After the second semester, they will appear for SPSU exam and Module 3 –

Professional Level – II.

Students pursuing this programme and who do not have a commerce background will,

in addition to the above, have to clear the Module 1 – Foundation Course.

Diploma

This programme in accounting will result in the following:

1. Advanced Diploma in Accounting from SPSU.

2. One gets upto three qualifications from AIA

i. Certificate at the end of Module 1

ii. Advance Diploma at the end of Module 2

iii. Membership of AIA at the end of Module 3
