    The San Francisco Sister City Committee

    Founded in 1961, the San Francisco/Manila Sister City is under the Office of the Mayor of San Francisco, andits mandate is to serve as a cultural and economic link between the two cities, presenting the best of San

    Francisco to the Philippines, and in turn showcasing the best of the Philippines to the San Francisco BayArea.

    Mrs. Carmen Colet, a prominent San Francisco Bay Area business-woman and thefirst and only Filipino-American Commissioner of the Asian Art Museum of San

    Francisco, was appointed by San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee, as Chair of the SisterCity Committee in 2012.

    On February 2014, Mayor Edwin S. Lee of San Franciscois scheduled to visit the Philippines following the long

    tradition of the San Francisco-Manila Sister City.Following the Mayors directions, the Sister City

    Committee, under the leadership of Carmen Colet, is

    giving more emphasis in bridging stronger economic andtrade relations between the two great cities. This year, thePhilippine Trade & Investment Center in Silicon Valley, representative office of thePhilippine Department of Trade & Industry and the commercial section of the

    Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, is working closely with the SanFrancisco-Manila Sister City Committee to organize the first ever San Francisco-

    Manila Business MIssion on November 4 to 7. This Business Mission isscheduled in advance of the Mayors visit on a working level capacity and results of

    the said Mission will be highlighted in February 2014, where landmark business agreements are expected tobe signed in front of the two Mayors.

    The Committee and the the Philippine Trade & Investment Center are designing a full-working itinerary that willprovide a comprehensive business opportunities exposure in specific sectors and will offer valuable one-on-

    one networking & business matching activities for San Francisco businesses that are eyeing to optimize thewealth of opportunities in the Philippines.

    The Philippines boasts of a long experience of public-private partnership (PPP) initiatives, whichserves as a rich basis for future investments. With its aggressive PPP promotion, the governmentwas and is able to attract private partners to invest not only in traditional infrastructure projects,such as power, transportation, and water sectors, but also in non-traditional infrastructure anddevelopment sectors, such as information and communications technology, health, and propertydevelopment. The partnership likewise helped improve road network quality, transport linkages andsocial services. To date, approximately US$ 19.5 billion in investment has already been generatedsince its inception. Today, PPP can be credited in helping realize various development projects both at the national andlocal levels across various infrastructure sectors.
