SITE ANALYSIS ASSIGNMENT
Statement: For this assignment you will analyze a building site, your home’s building site. As discussed on Monday’s introductory lecture, the first step of any building design process is to analyze the site conditions:
Elements such as:
Solar orientation VIEWS Location and type of vegetation (plants and trees) Paved areas Slope of land Location of Utilities (Sewer, water, electrical) Wind direction Drainage Sounds (cars, kids at play, neighbors) Location of neighbors (privacy) Property boundaries (approximate)
Task:
Using pencil, felt-tip pen colored markers and colored pencils diagram (graphically show) the elements list above.
The building site will be your own place of residence (you may represent your home and lot as rectangles).
Choose any approximate (appropriate) scale (perhaps your footstep/stride or architectural scale))
Among other items be sure to show a North Arrow and the sun’s path
The graphic site analysis will be presented on 24” x 36” white tracing paper with your name and title block printed clearly.
Try to show, CLEARLY, as much information as possible to assist your client in understanding where he or she would want you (the designer) to place their new room addition.
Due Date: August 31 beginning of class
