Protection of the Public

Canada’s Professional Associations are self-governing agencies which are mandated by Provincial Governments to ensure that their members have been:

• Certified as having met defined minimum academic requirements and have proven work experience at the appropriate level, and

• Registered to ensure that they work under a strict code of ethics.

The associations are trying to simplify registration for IEP’s:IEP’s now have access to fast-track registration

procedures:

• APEGBC & ASTTBC both offer a ‘Provisional Membership’:

Provisional Membership is for a one-year, non-renewable term.  The intention of the Provisional Membership status is to aid individuals who have been trained internationally in their search for engineering or geoscience work in a Canadian environment. This membership will also act as an identifier for companies reviewing candidates for employment.

Professional status may be granted to the Provisional Member once he or she has completed the year of Canadian experience, pending a final satisfactory review and approval through APEGBC or ASTTBC registration channels.

APEGBC began offering Provisional Membership status on January 1st, 2004.

ASTTBC began offering Provisional Membership status in February, 2007..
