For many years, Minnesota state agenies sh as the State Polie or the D.O

networks, often with little to no interoperability. The lack of a unied, scala

ommniations network that state agenies old se to oordinate th

responses to emergenies was ited as a major target of reform by the Minneso

State Government.

the ChAllenge

The hallenge faing the lawmakers was one of fnding the replaement of a

antiqated pathwork of ommniation networks with a sere, voie netwo

that old grow along with the state’s transportation system. With the Feder

commniation commission’s mandate that all entities tilizing “wide-band” VH

and uHF systems move to “narrow-band” systems by 2013, the Minnesota Sta

Legislatre responded by fnding an 800MHz P25 Trnked Radio commniati

System.

The Ofce of Communications within MNDOT set out evaluating the stat

rrent systems and began design of the reqired additions to bring all sta

agenies together onto a ommon ommniations platform. De to the hi

degree of importane plaed on the reliability of an emergeny ommniatio

network, one of the steps was to nd a company with an established track reco

of delivering remote monitoring and ontrol soltions to ensre that the netwo

and its eqipment wold fntion properly.

the solUtion

Asentria was hosen to monitor two important items at the tower site

environmental onditions (generators, smoke detetors, lights, bilding entrie

Ac & Dc power) and the LAN/WAN bakbone eqipment. The remote s

monitoring soltion Asentria delivered to MNDOT inlded the SNMP-link S

81 - and it’s sessor, the SiteBoss 530. Featring a ciso roter at eah tow

site for onnetivity, Asentria’s remote site monitoring soltion sends polling a

alarm trafc via SNMP across the network to a central NOC. This is then fed

an in-hose NMS system.

The Asentria nit’s powerfl ontrol apabilities allow personnel to remote

send ommands to enable or disable power plants and relay swithes; han

equipment conguration parameters; connect remote users to restricted po

ollet, bffer and serely transfer data; and more.

In addition, Asentria soltions have not only helped make MNDOT’s netwo

more reliable by enabling it to keep trak of environmental onditions that o

potentially pose a threat to its remote eqipment, bt have also proven to b

highly exible and customizable.

The SiteBoss 530 is a versatile, mid-range system sed for monitoring and

ontrol of remote eqipment sites. The S530 provides remote monitoring of serial

devies, eqipment I/O, and environmental onditions at these remote sites and

forwards notication when conditions fall outside limits. On-board I/O provides

serial, Ethernet, and dialp onnetivity. The S530-2 and -6 models provide two or

six Expansion slots respetively to allow addition of varios ommniations and

monitoring I/O interfaces that might be desired for your specic site application.
