How our courses are designed…

The most important aspect of any sixth form is how it prepares you for your next destination - employment, apprenticeships or further study. At The Co-operative Academy of Leeds we have designed our courses to ensure that you reach your next destination. We specialise in offering Level 3 BTEC courses and GCSE English and Maths. We also offer support and exam entry in A level languages (currently learners are entered for Urdu, Bengali, Russian, Portuguese, Persian, Polish, Spanish, French, Dutch and Arabic).

In addition to these courses it is essential that our students have at least in C grade in English and Maths GCSE for their next steps. To ensure that this happens we offer both English and Maths at GCSE in our sixth form where students will follow either a 1 or 2 year programme in either English or Maths or both depending on their previous results.

Where we have learners who are new to the country or recently arrived or not in employment or education we offer a Foundation Learning programme that focuses on English, Maths, a work related qualification and personal and social development. This course lasts 1 year and is designed to prepare students for further study at college.

Foundation Learning

Our academy specialises in teaching students who:

Are international new arrivals (INA)

Are new to English

Speak English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Are not in employment, education or training (NEET)

We have staff and students who are fluent in many different languages, e.g. Urdu, Pashto, Bengali, Farsi, Guajarati, Tigrinya, Arabic, Somali, Portuguese, Czech, Polish, Spanish and French. We know how special you are, and how you need personalised 'destination-led' curriculum provision.

What is Foundation Learning at the Academy?

You have the chance to develop your English Language skills, as well as gain qualifications in Functional Skills Maths, English and ICT. (Entry Level 1 to Level 1).

You will also be able to select a Vocational Course from a number of choices e.g. ICT, Sports, Art (Entry Level 1 to Level 1).

You will follow an accredited Personal and Social Development qualification (PSD). Units include: managing money, healthy living, rights and responsibilities. (Entry Level 1 to Level 1).
