Sixth Form
October Half Term 2016

Coming back from the summer hol-
idays is a struggle for all of us. We
have six weeks off to do as we
please and then BOOM, school hits
and we sit through the same boring
routine until the next half-term.
Unless of course you enjoy your
education.
But despite the misery of school,
our Sixth form has achieved great
things and we are only mid-way
through October. One of these
great achievements includes Pad-
dle Power, which took place at
Croft Farm on the 23rd of Septem-
ber. This event, organised by the
Year 13 business students, raised
an amazing £2,816 for Teenage
Cancer Trust. The event was a huge

Paddled to Success! success, hosting a number of ac-
tivities, such as boat racing, face-
painting and a tombola. A num-
ber of teams took part, including
the deputy teachers who
dressed as zombies and GE4 who
won the races overall.
COMPUTERS, FINALLY!
As I am sure we can all agree the
lack of computers in the Sixth
Form has proven to be a bit of an
inconvenience (to put it politely).
With the crammed conditions of
the library it is clear carrying out
work for our A-levels is going to
be a struggle. At least it would be
if we were not fortunate enough
to have Mrs Johnson and the
newly elected Head Boy, Jamie
Hargreaves, and Head Girl, Keavi-
Jo Rickards, working hard to get
the computers back.
As stated by Jamie in his pre-
Head-Boy speech, his main aim
was to bring computers back into
the Sixth Form. Because of his
determination and the help of
Mrs J, the Sixth Form will now
have them back soon after the
October Half Term.

With the help of the committee,
Juliet Sirrell and volunteering stu-
dents we have also succeeded in
providing a musical afternoon at
our school for visually impaired
people in and around Tewkes-
bury. This afternoon, as we were
told by Community Secretary Ali-
sha, was held to help give back to
our community. Alisha told us
“doing things like volunteering
really helps us to get involved
and do some good in the world,
and it allows us to have fun at the
same time.” She believes it is
“vital we send the message out
there that, as a school, we are a
key part of the community”.
This event happened on the 6th of
September and was said to be a
‘wonderful afternoon’ by one of
the carers. The afternoon includ-
ed an array of cakes, tea and
coffee provided by Juliet Sirrell,
the commercial assistant and
lunch lady at the school. As well
as a number of musical perfor-
mances and poem-readings deliv-
ered by talents from Years 8 to
12.

Having a Head Boy and Head Girl
in the school has been a tradition
for many years and this year our
Sixth Form has voted two very
dedicated students to fulfil the
responsibility of the role.
As mentioned above, the lack of
computers was an issue the Heads
have already helped solve, howev-
er this was not their only aim.
After speaking to both the Head
Boy and Head Girl, it is evident
they are very keen to make the
Sixth Form a welcoming and kind
environment for both Year 12 and
Year 13. In doing this they hope to
set up a Student Counselling Com-
mittee enabling students to talk
about any of their concerns re-
garding school or other means.
The Students Counselling Com-
mittee is designed to be under-
standing, we all know of the stress
school brings and it is often hard
to relate to teachers regarding
personal matters. The committee
hopes to bring the Sixth Form
closer together and allow every-
one to have a happy, stress-free
two years.
Our Head Girl, Keavi, says “Last
year sucked for me and so this
year I just want to welcome
everyone every day and let
them know that they’re sup-
ported and I have their backs
with whatever they need”
Hopefully with the help and
guidance from our new Head
Boy and Head Girl this year
won’t suck and we can all look
forward to a much more inclu-
sive and relaxed Sixth Form en-
vironment.
