Developing a profession and becoming professional is not something that just happens because an ‘Act of Parliament’ has been passed, it is something that requires leadership at the difficult times, foresight from the wider team and commitment from the individuals involved.

I hope that since the launch of BACDT in 2009, we are not only being seen as a leading organisation within Clinical Dental Technology but also being seen as a leading organisation for Clinical Dental Technology outside of the profession.

In terms of foresight, to my knowledge, Skillbond are the first providers of a CDT specific catalogue from the UK, the significance of this publication should not be under-estimated. By the sheer fact that this catalogue exists, shows that companies consider Clinical Dental Technology to be a profession worth investing in as a growing market and as a profession key to the delivery of complex dentistry for the future.

It is very rare that an individual gets to be involved in the dawning of a new profession. I encourage you all as Clinical Dental Technician’s, to take that opportunity with both hands, work with the best materials, keep your skills up to date with cutting edge technologies and most importantly charge your patients accordingly for receiving such a high quality dental service.

Courses are presented by various technical demonstrators from world-renowned manufacturers and are supervised by Vincent Purkiss, Skillbond’s educational and Technical manager, who qualified in 1980 as a Dental Technology Graduate at The Royal London Hospital.

The Skillbond Education Centre comprises a purpose-built laboratory and a conference room. This area provides individual instruction for eight workstations using the latest and most advanced technology in equipment and materials. Both theoretical and practical tuition is offered, together with relevant literature, on all courses to ensure optimum understanding of each subject.

A broad spectrum of courses is now offered for Dentists and Technicians and includes Precision Attachments, Articulation, CAD/CAM Systems, Ceramic and Pressable Systems, Alloy Milling Techniques, Zirconia Milling Systems and Implant Workshops.

All courses qualify for verifiable CPD hours and comply with ISo 9001-2000 certification.

MONOPLANE

SROrthoplane® DCL teeth are designed to be the most aesthetic monoplane posteriors available. The talents of one of the world’s leading ceramists, Lee Culp, CDT, helped create these monoplane teeth with the illusion of anatomy. The premolars have a cusp-like effect to blend with the cuspid. They also feature the fast set-up ridge lap design for quick and easy set-up and equilibration.

COMBINATION

SROrtholingual® DCL and SROrthoplane® DCL lines were designed to work in combination (lingual upper with a monoplane lower). The SROrthoplane DCL lower features a central groove to accommodate the upper lingual cusp of the SROrtholingual DCL. Both feature the fast set-up ridge lap design.

SROrtholingual® DCL teeth were designed by Lee Culp, CDT, along with leading occlusion experts, academics and prosthodontists specifically for lingual contact occlusion. SROrtholingual DCL feature progressively decreasing maxillary lingual cusps, shallow mandibular cusp angles, and an uncomplicated central fossa. They can accommodate balanced and non-balanced occlusal schemes and feature the fast set-up ridge lap design.

SEMI-ANATOMIC

SROrthosit® PE,SROrthotyp® PE andSROrthotyp® DCL posteriors feature a gentler cusp angle of 22°. They occlude similar to anatomic teeth; however, this occlusion has a more forgiving intercuspation than a full anatomical occlusion posterior.

Our semi anatomic moulds vary in their morphology according to individual needs. N-type moulds are for normal bite (Class I), T-type moulds are for the rehabilitation of a deep overbite (Class II) and K-type moulds are for the rehabilitation of a cross bite situation (Class III).

Note - T and K moulds are only available in SROrthosit PE & SROrthotyp PE

ANATOMIC

SRPostaris® DCL denture teeth are a fully anatomical mould designed for partial dentures. The occlusal surface is wider than complete denture teeth to blend in with adjacent natural teeth.The lingual is also a full length so that acrylic gingiva does not extend above the natural gingiva.

In addition to the shade, the shape (form) and size ofanterior teeth have to be matched to the individualcharacteristics of the patient. The SR PHONARES NHCline of teeth offers 18 upper and 4 lower toothmoulds for the anterior region.

C H A I R S I D E L A B S I D E

If possible, the anterior teeth should be selecteddirectly on the patient according to the patient’s anatomical and facial characteristics. The followingmethods are recommended to facilitate the selectionprocedure:

FormSelector

The SR PHONARES FormSelector allows fast, easy and targeted selection of the appropriate anterior tooth mould.

Step 1 Determine the interalar width of the nose with the help of the FacialMeter. Select an appropriately sized tooth mouldfrom the INTER-ALA table.

Step 2 After having identified the correct size category, select thedesired tooth form, soft or bold,in line with the shape of thepatient’s face.

Step 3 Select the appropriate age groupof the teeth according to theincisal and facial curvature of theSR PHONARES NHC teeth.

Model analysis

Determine the following reference pointswith the help of a model analysis:

a] Position of caninesIdentify the first large pair of rugae; themidpoint of the labial surface of theupper canines is aligned at a distance of9 mm.

b] Intersection point of central incisorsThe labial surface of the central incisors isaligned at a distance of 7 mm to the cen-tre of the incisive papilla.

The length of the dental arch measuredacross these three points can be used as areference to select a set of anterior teethwith an appropriate width from the toothmould chart.

Scientifically proven: Artex® Articulators can be calibrated to a standardization with tolerances < 10 μm

Using the Splitex® Key and Splitex® Plate Set, all Artex® Articulators are calibrated similarly. This magnetic plate system serves as a metrical aid to calibrate different articulators. The precision of calibration is such that deviations are brought down to below 10 μm. This means that models can be mounted and changed with precision on any calibrated Artex®. Additionally, the ability to calibrate the Artex® Articulators simplifies the process of transferring the model from the practice to the laboratory. Where both parties have a calibrated articulator, then only the models need to be transported, and not the complete articulator. Not only does this protect the articulator against handling problems, it also saves on postal charges.

Courses are presented by various technical demonstrators from world-renowned manufacturers and are supervised by Vincent Purkiss, Skillbond’s educational and Technical manager, who qualified in 1980 as a Dental Technology Graduate at The Royal London Hospital.

The Skillbond Education Centre comprises a purpose-built laboratory and a conference room. This area provides individual instruction for eight workstations using the latest and most advanced technology in equipment and materials. Both theoretical and practical tuition is offered, together with relevant literature, on all courses to ensure optimum understanding of each subject.

A broad spectrum of courses is now offered for Dentists and Technicians and includes Precision Attachments, Articulation, CAD/CAM Systems, Ceramic and Pressable Systems, Alloy Milling Techniques, Zirconia Milling Systems and Implant Workshops.

All courses qualify for verifiable CPD hours and comply with ISo 9001-2000 certification.

Wycombe District is easily accessed by public transport from all directions. Chiltern Railways serve High Wycombe, Saunderton, Princes Risborough, Monks Risborough and Little Kimble on the London Marylebone - High Wycombe - Aylesbury line. For most of the week, there are at least 3 trains an hour between High Wycombe and London, and there is also a direct hourly service from London to Birmingham via High Wycombe and Princes Risborough.

First Great Western operates train services serving both Marlow and Bourne End. This branch line goes to Maidenhead where it joins the First Great Western Network, which links

London Paddington to Reading, Oxford, the South Coast and the West. Both the railway station and the Newland bus station are located in High Wycombe town centre. Arriva are the principal bus operator in the High Wycombe area, with routes serving all of the major urban and rural areas. Carousel buses are another major bus operator in High Wycombe and they run the A40 service, which links Wycombe to Heathrow on an hourly basis.
