Direct access to the Books24x7 web site is not available after upgrading to Skillport/OLSA 8.

Skillport/OLSA 8 Books and Videos

Mobile access to books and videos is now available through the Skillsoft Learning App. Additional

Search Books24x7

Books24x7 offers many search options to aid you in accurately locating the content you need.


In Skillport/OLSA 8, you have just as many search options to find the content you need. The Search

box is in the upper, right corner.

Corporate Folders are now Featured Topics Books24x7

In Books24x7, Corporate Folders are used to display company-created content collections on the My

Home page.

In Skillport/OLSA 8, Corporate Folders display as featured topics, which are folders within a browse

view that display in a drop-down list on the What's New page in Skillport.

Corporate Topic Trees are now browse views Books24x7

In Books24x7, Corporate Topic Trees/Browse Topics contain titles for required or suggested reading

based on your organization's needs (such as specific initiatives, organizational units, project or

learning programs). These topic trees display in the Browse Topics pod on the My Home page.

In Skillport/OLSA 8, an administrator can recreate Corporate Topic Trees using browse views, which

display in a drop-down list when a learner clicks Browse the Library in Skillport.

Personal folders display as sets in the learning plan Books24x7

In Books24x7, Personal Folders contain learner-selected titles. These folders display on the left side

of the My Home page.

In Skillport/OLSA 8, Personal Folders display as expanding sets (like folders) in the Personal

Learning tab of the Learning Plan.

Books24x7 Bookmarks are accessible in the Books Viewer Books24x7

In Books24x7, you can click to bookmark a page or section within a book. The bookmark then

displays under the book's title in your folders or search results.

In Skillport/OLSA 8, the same bookmarks you've set in Books24x7 are available within the Books

Viewer when you access the title.

Notes added to books within Books24x7 are accessible in the Notes section

of Skillport/OLSA 8 Books24x7

In Books24x7, you can add a note about a book, and it displays on the left, under the table of

contents, when viewing the book.

In Skillport/OLSA 8, notes are available for each content item using the More Actions link. Wherever

you find the book (such as within search results or in your Learning Plan, as shown below), your note

will be available. Alternatively, you can view all notes in the My Notes section of your profile.

Recommendations Books24x7

In Books24x7 a learner can recommend a title by using the yes and no buttons found on content

pages.


In Skillport/OLSA 8, you can also recommend your favorite content.

Chapters to Go Books24x7

Your organization may have chosen to extend the value of your Books24x7 subscription with Chapters to Go. This feature provides 15 chapter-level downloads every 90 days in three different file formats – PDF, Kindle-ready mobi or e-PUB – for offline reading or printing.


In Skillport/OLSA 8, if you have the download service, downloads are still offered in a variety of

popular portable formats suitable for printing and use with mobile devices, including PDF, Kindle-

ready MOBI, and ePub. In the Books Viewer select the download icon to download chapters.

You can view the number of chapter downloads available to you in your profile as well as the date

when your allocation of chapters will refresh. Click the My Profile link on the What’s New page to

access your profile.

Live Tables Books24x7

Books24x7 offers downloadable tables which can be opened and manipulated in Excel and other

spreadsheet applications.

Users can click on the "Open Table as a spreadsheet" link that displays above select tables within a

title. In this example, the table is opened in the default spreadsheet application in use, which is

Microsoft Excel.

Code Listing Search Books24x7

Books24x7 content resembles a typical HTML Web page, so you can copy and paste code examples

directly from the text into your program without needing to manually retype code or download/ftp files

which saves you time and improves your accuracy. You enter your programming language syntax in

the Search field, select the recommended section in the search results and then find the code in the

book text.

In Skillport/OLSA 8, you can search for Code Listings from the Search bar. Click on “Select” beside

the search bar (1), select the “Code listing” radio button (2) and click on “Done” (3) in the overlay

window. Type your code (4) into the search bar and press the search button (5) for results.

After conducting the search, expand the “View relevant sections” (1) area for any book in the

search results list and choose any search hit (2).

When you click on a search result section hit, the page containing the code keywords will launch

in the Book Viewer and from here you can find the code keywords on the page.

inGenius is now called Community Books24x7

inGenius brought the power of social networking to Books24x7; you can follow members, recommend

and comment on learning content.

In Skillport/OLSA 8, inGenius has been renamed to Community. You can continue to leverage the

power of social networking through recommendations, commenting, and following other Community

members. You can also set your book New Title Notifications in your Profile under Preferences.

Links to your profile, Community stream, and other Community members are located on the left side

of the Community page.
