WelcomeWelcome to the Skills for Life guide. We are passionate about learning and want you to succeed.
New Directions provides part-time courses which you can fit into your life.
Classes last for 2 hours and meet either once or twice a week.
Our class sizes are small and focused at a particular level so you will not feel out of your depth.
Before joining a class we will assess your needs so we can allocate you to the most suitable class.

EntitlementMaths & English qualifications are fully-funded for learners aged 19+ who have not yet achieved their GCSE at grade C or above regardless of any other qualifications you may have. This means you pay nothing, subject to residence requirements.
ESOL qualifications are part-funded, which means you pay about half. Learners must be aged over 19 and have 3 years residency in the UK/EU.
If you are working towards a qualification we can help you with cost of Ofsted registered childcare.
You may be entitled to financial support, to help pay course fees . Please note this is means tested.
You can pay fees by standing order – helping you spread the cost.

Formal tutor-led classes of 4 hours per week studying towards Cambridge ESOL exams. Ideal for those undertaking citizenship or requiring evidence of language skills for employment reasons.
To join a Cambridge class you must attend one of our friendly assessment sessions so we can place you into the most appropriate class.

For those who would like to work towards a formal recognised maths qualification but require additional language support.

Speaking and listening skills only in an informal environment, leading to a small qualification.
Conversation Classes
This course will help improve your English as well as help with Job Search, Interview Skills and Preparing for Work. It is free to the unemployed.
ESOL - Get Ready for Work
This course is for pregnant ladies who do not understand English easily.
You will learn practical information about having a baby and the words you will need.

• Passport and any Visas (if you hold a spouse visa please also bring your spouse’s passport and marriage documentation.
• A form of payment to pay for the course (Cheque, Cash or Direct Debit/Credit Card). Please note the deposit will cost up to £100.

If you are patient, friendly and have 2 hours a week or more to help others to learn, then we would like to hear from you. Our volunteers work alongside our professional tutors giving extra help to our learners. No previous experience is needed. All volunteers complete a free training programme provided by New Directions.
