Johnathan Thurston, North Queensland Cowboys Captain.

We’re mad about those ‘hairs on the back of the neck’ moments, and we’re obsessed by the competitive spirit which leads to them.

Founded in Australia, SKINS have innate respect for the underdog; for determination, passion and pure grit. We’re inspired by great sporting moments etched in the minds of sports fans the world over. We hate doping with a passion – in fact all our sponsorship contracts with athletes and teams have this philosophy built into them.

SKINS enhance human potential naturally. By providing the right compression in the right places, SKINS accelerate your blood flow and help deliver more oxygen to active muscles. Sport gets our blood racing and we want our gear to get yours racing. Our obsession with pushing limits and always going one step further is what’s made us one of the world’s most recognised and innovative sporting brands.

There’s actually a hell of a story behind the invention of SKINS which involves extraordinary drive and some pretty impressive science. Back to the beginning. The inspiration behind SKINS was provided by an Australian bloke with a simple, bold ambition: to feel ten years younger so he could do the things he used to do, feel bullet-proof just as he had when he was in his early twenties, stay out on the slopes all day long, party all night and be ready to do it all again and again.

Which wasn’t easy. It actually took him five long years (including consultations with NASA and other brains) to work it out. His starting point was the knowledge that his muscles needed better blood circulation to transport precious oxygen to them. By wrapping his muscles in a second tight ‘skin’ with an ascending level of compression, the blood would be pushed along. In other words,he invented and refined SKINS with engineered gradient compression.

Once he had established that SKINS really did accelerate blood flow, increase oxygen delivery to working muscles and as a result improve his power, speed, stamina and recovery, he didn’t waste any time. Hi fiving over, he began sending truckloads of SKINS around the planet. It wasn’t long before the sporting elite and amateurs alike swore by their SKINS. And still do.

REWinDor sk ins, the story so far.

SKINS don’t believe in ‘one size fits all’. We take sizing seriously so you get the benefits of precise compression and comfort. Each product has a specific size chart which takes into account your height and weight – and in some cases, your body shape as well.

05Perfect f it

SKINS keep you warm when it’s cool and cool when it’s warm. Wicking in SKINS fabric allows moisture to be drawn away from the body to keep you dry.

07TEMPERATURE & mOISTURE MANAGEMENT

SKINS speed up the turnaround of metabolic waste and improve the recirculation of blood lactate. SKINS are also proven to reduce exercise-induced muscle damage.

06RECOVERY

03MUSCLE FOCUS

SKINS wrap and support specific muscle groups. This reduces vibration and helps maintain muscle alignment, minimising the risk of injury and improving muscle efficiency. This is one of the reasons we’re endorsed by the Australian Physiotherapy Association.

SKINS gradient compression has been engineered to provide the correct level of surface pressure to specific body parts, increasing circulation and delivering more oxygen to active muscles – so you can train harder, with more power and less pain for longer.

Athletes don’t stand still. In developing our revolutionary 400 Series, we studied athletes to determine the compression requirements of each muscle group in motion, while static and during recovery. The result? SKINS Dynamic Gradient Compression for optimal performance.

SKINS fabric is warp knitted using multiple fine quality yarns for added strength. Warp knit fabrics have no natural stretch – the spandex mix ensures specific levels of elasticity and perfectly controlled compression.

The SKINS for the everyday sports men and women. These SKINS boast Engineered Gradient Compression.

Putting it bluntly, if you train or compete for less than 10 hours a week, the A200 active range should be right up your street. If you live in your SKINS for more than 10 hours a week, or if you compete in a specific sport like triathlon, cycling or golf, it’s probably time to step up to the 400 Series.

FORGET EUREKA MOMENT

was our hallelujah!moment

THE 400 SER IES

Looking for ways to help athletes achieve a stronger performance and faster recovery, we set out to further perfect our garments. The result: the revolutionary 400 Series with dynamic gradient compression, 400 fit and Memory MX fabric.

SKINS worked with scientists and engineers to develop a wearable measuring device that can accurately determine compression levels required while athletes are in motion. You see, the body at rest is a very different beast to the body climbing a rock face, swinging a six iron or diving for a try. We used our technical device to study exactly where on the body compression should be applied, and how much compression is needed during activity. We factored the results into 400 Series garments and call this new tech SKINS Dynamic Gradient Compression.

Why 400?

SKINS performed a 3D body scan of hundreds of athletes, amateur and professional, of all shapes and sizes. From the 800,000 measurements taken of each athlete, we established 400 key f itt ing points. 400 Series garments are then cut and shaped accordingly.

Muscl ing in

To add cream to a dessert that was already 90% cream, we placed Memory MX fabrics into our SKINS 400 Series garments. These provide controlled, consistent elasticity and perfectly focused support, complementing the body’s natural movement and reducing the risk of injury caused by exercise-induced muscle damage.

Like we said, hallelujah!

Recovering muscles need oxygen. But no one’s asking you to keep your training SKINS on after exercise. Our research has shown that the body’s needs while recovering are different to when it’s taut, in motion and pushed to the brink. That’s why SKINS developed the RY400 range.

Based on the 400 fit, RY400 long tights and tops can help prevent muscle fatigue, eliminate exercise-induced muscle damage and improve recovery. A cup of cocoa will help you sleep, but a night wearing RY400s will see you waking up fresher and ready to start all over again.

The trinity of a punishing swim, ride and then a run pushes both the human body and mind to its limits, demanding a tough athlete – and garment.

The 2012 TRI400 range for men and women features everything you’d expect from high-end triathlon kit with the added performance benefit of SKINS unique dynamic gradient compression.

SKINS TRI400 range has been anatomically designed based on 400 fit for comfort while swimming, cycling and running to victory.

SwIm: Strategically placed heat-treated Toray fabric panels provide a super-slick surface, resulting in reduced wave drag in the water. SKINS MemoryMX fabric panels down the spine and around the obliques provide targeted gradient compression while allowing unrestricted arm movement during the swim leg.

CyClE: The latest triathlon specific Elastic Interface® Technology chamois offers a perfect compromise between protection and freedom of movement. The chamois is lightweight and breathable, with low absorption and a slim profile. Its flexible anatomical design means that it moulds itself to the bike immediately after the swim.

RuN: By the run stage, triathletes will be appreciating the benefits of dynamic gradient compression to help re-circulate blood lactate faster. The inside legs panels on the suits and shorts are made with carbon infused fabric, proven to provide 40% less friction as you run. In addition, bonded hems prevent chafing and give a flat finish.

It ’ s fantast i c to work with a sportswear brand with a range of products that are integral to the l ives of

profess ional and amateur athletes,

Mike Wilde, Commercial Director of the ITU World Championship Series.

What’s a winter without a trip down a black run? Trust us, it’s a whole lot more thrilling when you’re not cramped, cold and in pain. Wearing the right base layer makes a significant difference when you are out on the slopes, so the new SKINS S400 snow range is huge news.

Back in 2009, SKINS became the official sponsor of ÖSV, the Austrian Ski Federation, and since then have provided compression wear to the Austrian ski jumping team. This very team went on to annihilate everything in its path to Olympic and World Championship glory.

Their secret weapon is a specif ically crafted SKINS all-in-one suit, and this one piece provided the inspiration for our S400 range.

The S400 range brings more oxygen to muscles for better performance and less pain. Additionally, seams and panels are positioned to provide support and stability to your muscles, meaning less risk of injury.

SKINS S400s also pack a chill busting 150% higher thermal rating than SKINS standard ranges to keep you warm while you carve, slide, schuss or catch some air.

Our all-in-one suits are so effective that Head ÖSV ski-jumping coach, coach Alexander Pointer, has said ‘they have one of those little advantages that help decide medals at Olympic Games’

As it’s warm right now, we’re only shown our top sellers here. Check out SKINS.net for the full S400 collect ion.

How do you take the iconic leader in the world of compression sportswear and make it better? That was the challenge facing SKINS when we started work on the new 200 Series, the evolution of our pioneering and hugely successful original collection.

Built on SKINS’ scientifically proven engineered gradient compression, the SKINS 200 series garments feature muscle wrapping and support for stronger performance. Put simply, the A200 range is for people across the world who are passionate about being active – running, playing team sports and taking fitness classes. People who train and compete because it keeps them fit, because they want to get in shape, because they love it.

But what else i s new? Word has got back to us that some people like to show the competition that they’re wearing SKINS, to let them know how serious they are about their sport. So we’ve made the logo a bit more prominent and improved the density of our signature SKINS stitching.

The A200 women’s collection was designed by women, for women – so the garments feature flattering lines to give you a sleek silhouette, as well as this season’s hottest fashion colours.

A200 garments also feature SKINS’ warp knit fabric, moisture wicking, temperature management and 50+ UV protection.

For anyone active, one of the hardest things to endure is an enforced period of inactivity. The worst is a long haul flight.

Well, the good news is that SKINS aren’t just for training, competition or recovery. Simply slip your SKINS travel recovery tights on under your clothing for the duration of the flight and the engineered gradient compression will improves circulation and minimise swelling and dehydration. You’ll be surprised at how much better you feel when you arrive.

So, they won’t help you run faster or train harder, but boy (or girl), are they stylish. And they’re guaranteed to go with any SKINS product – who says we’re not a fashion brand?

Abs. Simply place your hands on the armrest and lift your knees up slowly while you exhale – pulling your navel to your spine. Try to scoot a little bit away from the back of the chair and keep your torso still as you lift your legs. Repeat 15 times.

Calves. This is one for the back of the plane, or anywhere you can stand up. Do a set, or two, of 15 calf raises. Be sure to hold onto something (the wall, a seat back) for a little added stability.

Shoulders. This is one for when your neighbour gets up for a loo break or falls asleep. Bend your elbows and roll your forearms over each other in a circular motion. If you can manage it, go faster and faster. Try to go for about 30 seconds.

Circulation. Start with your feet planted on the ground. Lift your toes up into the air and flex your feet with your heels still on the ground. Bring your feet back down flat on ground and then lift the heels off the ground while leaving your toes grounded. Repeat the motion 15 times. This is great for keeping the blood circulating in your legs when you’re flying long haul.

Beat je t lag and feel good when you fly.

Frequent flyer ?

Being stuck on a plane for 8 hours isn’t an excuse to veg out. There are some simple routines you can do in your seat or while queuing for the loo that will keep you feeling fresh throughout the flight.

MATTERSS IZEWe love things that get our blood racing. We hate things that stop our blood racing. That’s why size matters a lot to us at SKINS. Too tight or too loose and you might not get all the benefits of enhanced performance and faster recovery that SKINS provide.

Each product has its own specific size chart, so check the back of the SKINS box, speak to a sales assistant, or go to skins.net and look at the size guide on each product page to find the right size for you.

400 Series Sizing – the ultimate fitOur 3D body scans of hundreds of active sports men and women allowed us to create what are arguably the best fitting compression garments on the market.

For men:400 Series men’s products are developed to take into account three different height categories.

For women:400 Series women’s garments use a unique sizing system that not only takes into account height and weight, but also your body shape.

‘A’ shaped bodies have a small waist in relation to the hip and thigh. ‘H’ shaped bodies have little variation in shape from waist to the hip and thigh.

Here’s where we lay down in black and white the scientifically proven reasons why wearing SKINS can aid sporting performance.

So far, ten studies carried out using SKINS garments have been published in independently peer reviewed medical journals.

What have they proven? They’ve shown that SKINS:

• Increase venous return• Reduce exercise induced muscle

damage (EIMD)• Accelerate recovery processes• Recirculate blood lactate more

effectively• Increase strength and power• Improve endurance• Increase muscle oxygenation• Improve body temperature control• Reduce in-flight ankle oedema

SKINS are recommended and endorsed by the Australian Physiotherapy Association and our garments qualify for registration as a therapeutic device by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration.

aren’t all lycra products the same?

Shame on you! Lycra has become a generic description for most elastomeric fabrics. The main fabric SKINS use is warp knitted, which is a superior fabric that provides the stringent stretch and recovery standards needed for SKINS’ unique gradient compression.

Can SKINS prevent injury?

Yes. The wrapping and targeted compression for muscles provided by SKINS can decrease muscle vibration and dramatically improve muscle awareness and focus (proprioception). Compression can also limit the risk of injury caused from exercise induced muscle damage (EIMD).

Can SKINS help me recover?

SKINS can speed up recovery from injuries through engineered gradient compression and improved muscle oxygenation. In addition, SKINS can help reduce jetlag, growing pains, arthritis, chronic fatigue syndrome, lymphoedema and varicose veins. SKINS were also shown to reduce the symptoms of deep vein thrombosis in a study published in the Australian Medical Journal.

don’t long black tights or tops get hot?

No. Not only do SKINS improve circulation – which helps the body to regulate its temperature regardless of the conditions – they also have wicking built in so moisture can evaporate away from your skin quickly.

how do I know what size SKINS to wear?

Choosing the correct size SKINS is essential to ensure the maximum performance benefits. Each SKINS product has a specific size chart. You’ll find the size charts on skins.net product pages or on the back of all SKINS packaging.

will SKINS keep me warm in the cold?

Yes. Because SKINS improve blood flow, they help keep your extremities warm. In addition, built-in wicking stops sweat cooling on your skin. For really cold conditions, try our A200 thermal range.

Can I swim in SKINS?

Both our TRI400 and the rest of the SKINS range feel at home in water. The only thing you might notice is that the gradient compression doesn’t work as well when you’re submerged. Stay away from chlorinated pools though, as the chlorine can damage the elasticity of the fabric.

how should I wash my SKINS?

We recommend that all SKINS are washed before they are worn. There’s no need to hand wash SKINS. Just bundle them into the machine and wash them on a cold (below 30°C), delicates setting. It’s best to use a gentle detergent and no fabric softener. And don’t tumble dry SKINS, let them dry naturally.

how long will my SKINS last?

Obviously this depends on how much you punish them and how often they’re washed. We expect that SKINS will last about the same distance as a good quality running shoe. As with all elastomeric materials, SKINS will deteriorate eventually.

how long is the warranty on SKINS products?

Your SKINS are covered by a one-year warranty from the day you buy them on any material or workmanship flaws. Retain your receipt as proof of purchase.

What else do you need to know? If your question isn’t on this page, take a look at skins.netkins.net.
