Welcome Skyline Family, New and Old!
When Area IX first approached us last year about poten ally hos ng the area
championships in 2017, we were both elated and terrified. Elated because it
meant that our li le event was well‐received enough by the greater even ng
community to think we could pull it off, and terrified because we knew what
work it would take to make it everything it should be to live up to that amount
of faith and trust.
Since that news became official, we’ve been carefully refining our process, plan‐
ning some changes to the course, and squirreling funds away to make sure we
could make the October event a truly wonderful experience for every compe ‐
tor, whether they were vying for a championship prelim tle or taking their first
crack at intro.
We hope the event lives up to that magic for you, and that you’ll reach out if
there’s anything we can do to make that a reality.
We’re so thrilled to welcome those from near and far, and we hope it’s a week‐
end you’ll remember for years to come.
3, 2, 1...Have a great ride!

In the Warmup:
Pass le shoulder to le shoulder when passing a horse in the opposite direc on.
Give vocal heads up to your fellow riders, for example, yelling “passing inside” as you
approach or calling out the fence you’re going to jump.
Keep at least one horse length between you and other horses
Do not lunge in the warm‐up area
Share warm‐up fences generously, and don’t raise fences to heights outside the level
preparing to compete.
In the Common Areas:
Keep your me in the wash racks as short as possible
Respect volunteers and honor their requests. In return, we promise not to ask
anything unfair or embarrassing!
In the Ring:
Don’t enter the ring un l the rider before you has exited.
Salute your dressage and jump judges and listen for your start whistle or bell.
Horses always have the right of way.
Children and pets must be closely supervised. (NO dogs off‐leash)
Avoid any ac on that could be interpreted as an "unauthorized assistance" to a com‐
pe tor. This includes but isn't limited to: giving advice and direc ons to a rider, click‐
ing, waving, or shou ng to encourage a horse to jump. The penalty is ELIMINATION for
the rider. (you can clap and cheer a er the horse has cleared the obstacle.)
Should a horse or rider fall, officials and medical personnel will respond immediately.
Please make sure to stay well back to give them the opportunity to do what they are
trained to do.
If the horse is loose, you may catch him but if you do not have experience with horses,
the most helpful thing you can do is to get out of the horse’s path and call for help.
