SLIPKNOT -

THE DEVIL

IN I

ANALYSIS

Page 2: Slipknot - the devil in i

The first shot we see gives a sense of this presence bringing

one of the band members to his death as we get a feel of an

elevator rising.

In the beginning of the music video, we see a shot of a Crow,

this Crow is a symbol of death therefore the audience get a

sense to what the narrative may be and what we may see

further on in the music video.

Also we see something which appears to be a ghostly

presence. In the beginning, the audience is confused as to

what that presence actually is. This therefore creates a

sense of enigma as the audience are left wondering.

These shots are shown throughout the music video. This

represents all the band members in their previous masks

committing suicide as if they are reinventing themselves.

This shows that they may be creating a new identity, also

creating a new sound within their music. Their old music

was more heavy whereas now their sound is less

aggressive.

By seeing these shots, we get a sense of the setting. These

shots show us that the band are in a mental asylum. We also

know this as we see the extra’s in the background wearing

straitjackets.

This also tells us that the band are very aggressive and they

have almost an inhumane nature as we get a feeling of what

they’re personality is like and the fact they are wild.

The disco ball we see in one of the

shots connote that the band are

celebrating the reinvention of

themselves. They are also celebrating

the death of their band member who

recently died out of respect.

The shot of the lead singer Corey Taylor links with the lyrics

that are said in this scene. “Undo these chains, my friend”

in this shot we see him leaning towards the chains. This

gives us a feel as if he’s trapped because of the problems

that are within himself.

This shot also gives us a feel of what he’s actually trying

to interpret. Is he asking ‘Step inside the chain and I will

show you the devil inside?’
