Comenius Neverending Story

Our project called "The Neverending Story" began in 2010 and it will continue until

2012. Participants of the project are from the Czech Republic, Latvia, Slovakia,

Slovenia and Spain. The project is based on experimenting with foreign languages by

using fairytales. Each country has chosen the most popular traditional fairytale.

Children are getting familiarwith the English version of this fairytale and then are

going to participate on every activity planned for the project (designing of the mascot,

comics creating, crosswords, songs and dances, games etc.). Besides that they are

staying in contact with pupils from other countries and improving their

English by exchanging letters. The outcomes of different activities will be presented

on the website, shared with other participants and finaly publish in a book. During the

following two years we are also going to visit each other, share our experiences and

also learn something about traditions and culture of other countries.

Introduction

Our school is located in Orava ( Northern part of Slovakia), near Orava dam with very

big number of mountains (the Hight Tatras, Roháče,...). There are only 4 larger towns

in Orava- Dolný Kubín, Námestovo, Tvrdošín and Trstená. Tvrdošín, where is our

school is royal town with famous wooden church (written to UNESCO), gallery of

printer Mária Medvecká. There live 10.000 people. Part of Tvrdošín is Oravice- ski

and spa center. Primary and Secondary school of Štefan Šmálik- is in the centre of

Tvrdošín . We have 2 ICT classrooms with 50 PCs there, 5 classrooms with

interactive whiteboards, about 7 data projectors, one gym, new canteen and now we

are working on a new project about new curriculums to have a better education

system. Our pupils come from numerous families, some are orphans and almost all

of them come from religious families. We are small school with so old building (it was

hospital during WW the second), but with very sociable children and staff.

Slovak STORY

At twelve months

One mother had two daughters. Own one and a half second. Her own daughter

Holena was very lazy and ugly and half Maruška, was nice and she was only as a

maid. Stepmother and Holena only rested whole day, while Maruška worked very

hard. Holena was still uglier and uglier and Maruška, despite the very hard work

was prettier and prettier.

Stepmother did not like it, because she knew that her daughter will not get married.

It was therefore she decided to get rid of Maruška.

One very cold winter day, the stepmother and Holena decided to smell fresh

violets. Therefore they sent Maruška to the winter blizzards collect some.

She had to go to deep woods full of white snow and where was very cold.

Suddenly she saw the glow in the top of the mountain in the distance.

When she came to the place she saw 12 rocks and on it sitting 12 men. The first

three were very old, three young, three younger and last three more younger. They

all sat around the fire and did not speak anything. Maruška was greeted nicely and

asked them if they can warm up. She told them that she must gather violets in

other case her stepmother will kill her.

December, the oldest man stood up of the highest stone and commanded the

youngest March, let sit in his place. When he did it ,at one small place lost the

snow and began to grow violets. Maruška collected them quickly, thank hem and

ran home.

Bad stepmother and Holena thought, that Maruška is just frozen in the forest and

they were so happy during thinking of it...........but suddenly Maruška walked to

house with violets. They were very disappointed.

The next day they invented to have strawberries. Unhappy Maruška again went

into the forest to the same place where she met 12 men. She said again

Hello and with sadness in the eyes she asked for help. The oldest moon stood up

and at his place sat down July- the younger moon. After a while Maruška could

pick up strawberries.

When she brought it to home, Holena and stepmother have eaten all Holena and

stepmother have eaten all strawberries.

During the third day they invented to taste for apples. Maruška again went into the

frozen forest. Even now the oldest moon released place for September. Maruška

collected apples and ran home with them.

At home Holena and stepmother all apples ate and they decided to collect more in

the forest themselves.

When they came to the forest, they were very rude.

Maruška was cleaning home, cooking but still waiting for them.

Time passes very quickly and they have not coming home. Meanwhile Maruška got

married and she with her husband lived happily for many, many years

Children and teachers mobility in Soria, Spain (7-9 March 2011)

Here you can read reports of our 4 children from this mobility:

Jozef (12), Mário(8), Peter(9), Martin(7)

We were in Spain the first time and we also flew the first time. We have

beendelighted to Soria, because the teacher showed us their school on the internet

and we wanted to really meet our friends, with whom we have corresponded. We are

very surprised by their traditional carnival masks as well as the original we've not

seen before. We had come back to Slovakia sooner it was so pity and we were very

sorry to have not been out classmates with us working on this project. But we have to

say our thank to all Comenius team from Slovakia

Latvian´s children in Tvrdošín, Slovakia (2 May, 2011)

Good relations between the partner schools from Slovakia and Latvia confirmed the

visit of Latvian students in our school in Tvrdošín. They introduced us a rich treasury

of folk tales of Latvia and fabulous musical tunes and songs from other European

countries. Many of the tunes were well known to our students and in tale puzzles

prepared by Latvians they have known solve.

The second Slovak children mobility- Riga, Latvia (22-26 May, 2011)

Reports of our children:

WE were excited when we haeart that in the Comenius project we will travel to the

capital of Latvia. We enjoyed bus trip. We crossed almost all Poland and after that we

traveled any kilometers through Lithuania. There in Latvian school Agneskalna

Primary school Comenius teachers have been waiting for us. Parents of our latvian

friends have come for us after any little time. We have been accommodated in

houses of our friends whom we still did not know personally, only from letters. We

were a little afraid of the idea that we sleep in foreign homes, but after the first night,

we found that our fear was completely useless. Latvian families were very friendly

and nice. Parents cared about us as at their children and also because it they fall

deeply to our hearts. We saw a lot of unrepeatable experiences, visited the botanical

gardens, zoo, we were swimming in the sea-the first time in our lives, in Aquasplash,

were drawing with the Latvian children, were dancing their national dances with them.

Latvian NationalScenic tale- Spriditis. They very liked it. Although we are Slavik

nations similar tale you can´t find in fairytales

books. The main hero Spriditis (Tom Thumb) show them that although he

was tiny, even a child could be put evil traps and show the worldthe good and love.

Our trip to Ljubljana We went on Monday, March 19, 2012 fulfills expectations. The

that we played football. Then we went to make products that will be given to us

in Říčany, where we again meet our Slovenian friends and also Czech, whom

weknow personally in October. We are already looking forward it. After lunch

at school we went to the Postojna cave. where we saw endemic amphibian, which s

urprised us, that it lives 100 years and has not to eat for 10 years.

Something amazing. Finally we went to see , put our feed to the

Adriatic, which was an indescribable experience, because we also are accompanied

by our friends from Ljubljana. Next day we learned in school English, we

made puppets, Slovenian teachers played a puppet play, we taught their children our

game that we invented for Spanish fairy tale, we left it to them as one of the gifts ,

than we have pieced together the Legogears , visited the local library, where one

time for one month they read a books for their dogs and finally we competed

in mix groups in their gym. After lunch Slovenian friends accompanied us to the all

centre Ljubljana. It had its charm, because friends were so good and friendly and

we have the chance meet famous twins singer who sang a song that it still

resonates in our ears. After dinner, we quickly fell asleep. The Thursday after breakfast we sat on the bus. It was very sad because this mobility was so short. Our

thanks belong to all Comenius team from Slovenia, their children and our

Comenius teachers team, because we never had the experience as follows.
