Greetings,

We had a great crowd at our January meeting. Chris LaFollette from Akin Gump provided our dinner topic with “SEC Hot Topics” and Jim Harden, Brad Ross and Chin Yu from Hein and Associates provided our PD session on “Financial Due Diligence and Valuation”. Thanks again to all of these folks for taking time from their busy schedules to meet with our group.

We recognized some special FEI members at our January meeting. Celebrating 40 years of service with FEI are Bob Baumgartner and Mark Miller. Celebrating 25 years of service are Austin Young, Ben Roberts, Marcus Jonesi and Gene Jones. These senior statesmen are now members of National’s Key Club. Also recognized at our January meeting were Ulyesse Le Grange, who was the chapter president 25 years ago, Stephen Grace, the past president over 30 years ago and Bill Ihlandfeldt. All of these men have been recognized nationally by FEI in the past and have served in other capacities above and beyond the Houston chapter. Thanks to all of you gentlemen for arranging your schedules to attend our January meeting.

In early February, we a good crowd and dialogue at our new members/prospective members social hour which was held in The Tasting Room. Thanks to KPMG for sponsoring this event and for sponsoring a second event later in the spring.

My wife and I are looking forward to the chapter’s annual Wine Dinner for members/spouses/dates/sponsors this Saturday February 8, 2014 at the Hilton Americas Hotel. Thanks to Jim Davis and his wife, Diane, for chairing and coordinating this wonderful event. And thanks to our sponsors who make the event possible for us: IFS, Siegfried Group, and USI Southwest.

Our February meeting will be special. The Foundation and Chapter will award 12 scholarships to regional university students in finance and accounting in what we call our Academic Honors Day event. In attendance with the recipients of these scholarships will be the deans and professors from these schools. And, our February dinner meeting will be held at the Federal Reserve on Allen Parkway. Daron Peschel, from the Reserve will be our keynote speaker. If you haven’t registered for this meeting, please visit our website at www.feihouston.org and do so.

Our sincere thanks to our sponsors who help to underwrite our February meeting. Aventine Hill is our Academic Honors Day sponsor and RR Donnelly is providing the printing. Oracle is our platinum dinner sponsor and Deloitte is our gold social hour sponsor for our meeting. Without the generous support of our sponsors, who contribute money, time, in-kind donations, and ideas to our chapter, we could not accomplish what we do each year. Please give our sponsors preference when needing business services from these valuable partners.

As always, please let us know what we as a chapter can do for you.

Regards,

Phil Denning President, FEI Houston
